There are a lot of extremely good points in this topic. Good arguements on both sides. I (almost 40) was personally raised in a household that you wouldn't even dare think of a cuss word or you'd get dad's belt. But, now I can let a string of em go in a skinny minute.

The profanity really doesn't bother me either, as long as it fits the situation as another poster stated. But, when people are just walking down the sidewalk and it is f this and f that .... that is just hidious.

I love ALL kinds of movies, the profanity riddled violent gangster movies, the heart wrenching emotional drama, the gut splitter and the cartoon movies and everything inbetween. BUT, I absolutely agree with those of you speaking to the quality of the movies themselves. In my opinion, actors today simply do not know how to stand there and act a scene without having to use profanity, violence or pyrotechnic(sp) to convey the thought or feeling.

My passion is the old movies. People acted. They simply used their God given talents alone and moved you in some way. There are several generations of extrodinary actors, actresses and directors that I don't think the movie industry will ever see again. And if we, the lovers of these movies, don't share these precious gifts with the young people of today so that they will even know that IT IS POSSIBLE to actually act without those things then who knows what they will come up with next.

Oh yeah, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang came on the other day and yes, I watched it again for the uptenth hundred time....! LOL :broken_heart:

We watched The Corn is Green on TCM. Starred Betty Davis when she was in her mid thirties and they tried to make her look older with makeup. She was a teacher that came to a mining town and started a school. She took special interest in one gifted young miner and helped him get out of the mines and study to obtain a scholarship to an ivy league school. We thought it was a really good movie. Had some good twists and turns in it.

Today in Summerville, South Carolina we are expecting more rain and mid 80's - thank goodness. I've just about had my fill of humidity. Can't wait til November when I'll be in a cabin in the mountains of West Virginia for a week and hopefully in the snow. Wo Wo

Welcome Zitor! You will positively love this place. I just came back from a few months of hectic time, and I am sure glad I did. There is a very special group of people here and we look forward to seeing you often.

Oh my gosh - I almost started crying while watching this interview clip. And, I would have loved to have been in the wings when it was over to inform Mr. Wayne that he was absolutely a very attractive 71 year young man! hubba hubba....thanks for the link.

Cool, this is an interesting thread. So, did they actually go and perform the movies in the studio, or are you all talking about just putting the sound track of the movie on the radio? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Girl on lap laughing and joyful from the discovery she just made....

Duke laughing in his usuall scruffy voice says

"I'm glad you like my shot gun little lady...now let me show you my "real" gun!

Well, this is kinda irrelevant(?) but I just wanted to say I haven't read any books specifically about him, but my dad's birthday was in January (loves to read and loves JW) went to Booksamillion and wanted to get him some nice coffee table style books... got one about the maps of the bible, one about WW1 and the last one was the 100 most influencial people (can't remember the exact title). When I picked it up, the first person I looked for was JW and, of course, he was there. Bought it. Wrapped it. Dad opened it - and the first person he looked for was JW!!!! I almost cried!

Hey there Duke, it is funny that you mention a bracelet that he wears. My husband has been telling me about one he saw him wearing (which he thought was silver) and has been asking me to get him one like it, but I can never notice one in the movies I see. (Or I just keep missing it). I would be quite interested if anyone could actually find a picture of it that I could see. He says the one he saw was not flat, but rounded and he said it had a flatten part on top (as if you could engrave something on it). I've never seen it, but he swears he did. Any help anyone has would be great! Thanks!

We just watched Flyboys last night. Good movie. It is based on the story of the first fighter pilots during WW1 started by the French. I thought it was very good. The dog fight scenes in the by and tri planes were great. I was familiar with a few of the faces of the actors, but not many. Even so, it was well cast and I certainly recommend a watch.
