[/media]It was time for some 50s very good westerns...
''Ambush at Tomahawk Gap'' (1953) directed by Fred F. Sears
''Garden of Evil'' (1954) directed by Henry Hathaway
''Bend of the River'' (1952) directed by Anthony Mann
''Day of the Outlaw'' (1959) directed by Andre De Toth
John Ford and Woody Strode were close friends.
Strode was one of the last people to visit Ford near his death.
When ever Ford could fit him into a film he did.
Thanks for the info BILL OF PA.
Woody Strode is a respected actor here most of his participation in many legendary italian flicks.
I like him very much in ''Spartacus'' and ''The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance''. In the last one his presence was very touching.
''Objective Burma'' with Errol Flynn. 142 minutes of pure action.
''Chisum''... and I will see it again because of the unsurpassed presence of Ben Johnson with Duke.
Ford himself called it "The worst piece of crap I've done in twenty years"
I second that opinion. The story was unusual and imaginative but the result was disappointing. Ironically in this bad film Stewart and Widmark had good chemistry.
But for God's sake whose idea was to put Woody Strode to do an indian? That was very lame.
I watched for first time ''In Harm's Way'' and I found it just ok .
I like most of his work. I'll watch today ''Chisum'' to honor his memory. One of my fave Duke movies.
Rest In Peace.
Vera Cruz ''Western Legends - MGM'' dvd for 5 euros.
The fourth official Sartana film: ''Have a Good Funeral, My Friend... Sartana Will Pay'' directed by Giuliano Carnimeo with John Garko.
It was good but not as the first two legendary pics.
I will remember him from ''Brannigan'' of course and epic masterpieces like''Gandhi'' and ''A Bridge To Far''.
