I like THE SHADOW OF THE EAGLE a lot and revisit it often. IMO it's more entertaining than many of the later, slicker serials from Republic. The Duke is already in form even this early in his career and handles himself well in the action sequences. The great thing about the Mascot serials during this period is that the lack of polished production adds to their realism. Wayne does most of his own stunts and without the aid of process photography -- it's all done live on the spot. I especially like the carnival setting. Pretty Dorothy Gulliver also asserts herself well as the Duke's girl.
