A very sad weekend here in my hometown. Two prominent people in the community passed away early Saturday morning. They lived a full life but so sad to see these men pass.

One is Jim Striplin a local hometown bank president who was instrumental in bringing Prattville into what it is today. He helped start the local YMCA which is one of the biggest in the country for a community this size, a major paper mill which is one of the biggest manufactory in the state, a country club and very important figure for his church.

James Crosby grew up in Prattville and was very important as well in the community. He ran the cotton mill which was one of the largest in the world and help to community with his contributions to his hometown. He was very involved in getting sports into the community and an avid fan.

Both of these men lived a full life and passed in their 80's. A sad day for our community but we celebrate their lives and what they did for Prattville.

Thanks for letting me share. I happen to know these men personally and were my family's friends.

The Green Berets with David Janssen, Jim Hutton and Aldo Ray. Another classic with so much controversy. But the Vietnam was such an animal. Duke believed in the soldiers, not the war, and that was what it was all about. I really like this movie. Another home run with me from TCM.

In celebrating what would be Duke's 106 birthday, TCM is showing his war movies all day, and I just finished watching The Sea Chase with Lana Turner Hayworth. A well done movie with plenty of action and adventure. More to come. Happy Birthday, Duke. We love you and miss you dearly. Thanks for the movies to continue to remember.

Safe Haven is another movie like The Notebook. I must say I was a little disappointed with the story line and script. The lines were not good. I don't know if the actors are good or not, but the lines were dreadful. I'd say skip this one. The ending was surprising and not expected. I'm not going tell you about in case you want to see it. Not for the kids. Just a sappy love story with a little suspense. Kinda like the Julia Roberts movie, Sleeping with the Enemy.

For my birthday, I received a couple of movies from my family and they hate westerns. So, I received Promised Land and Silver Linings Playbook. And today, I watched them both. They were movies I don't think I would buy, but I watched them and they were interesting. They were political and I might say they lean to the left as you might figure. They were well done and the acting was superb. But they were the type of movie that would be disappointing to truth and values that get distorted from the left. Just to warn you that they were entertaining; just don't take all of it seriously. Watch the language in these movies. Not for the young. Stick with Duke movies.

I really enjoyed reading these birthday lists. You list so many with the early ones who contributed to life with their greatness and leaders or inventors and later on list the athletics and celebrities mainly. And though I do enjoy seeing who has those birthdays, we as a society seem to move our focus on people who entertain more than change our lives. Just an interesting observation. Thanks Keith for your list here.

Hey Keith! The monster poster here on this message board. You've made strides to move into a position no one has ever reached here. 11,800 + posts is outrageous! Almost all of us don't even have half of those posts. You may be leaving us far behind. Congrats of all these milestones, and all your knowledge that you have taught us here.

Though I have this on VHS and DVD, it touches my heart to add to my Blu-ray collection The Great Escape! Just an all around great movie with some of the greatest actors of the time. So glad to have this in my collection. Stars are Steve McQueen, James Garner, Richard Attenborough and many many more.

If you haven't seen this movie, which I am sure most of you have here, see it. It is one of the greatest films about war or mainly about WWII prison escapes ever made.
