quite simply the worst john wayne film i have ever watched. the only plus point was that i watched it on my own. i would hate to think it was anyones introduction to john wayne. was it a hit at the time does anyone know?

the film itself was really good and i liked the extra bits in the middle when rooster and mattie came across the hanging man and the bearskin traveller etc... i also liked the end and the way the film was narrated. i wasnt so keen of jeff bridges though. not just saying this as a john wayne fan but i honestly preferred his version of rooster cogburn. it just didnt feel right with jeff bridges playing him and i didnt like the way he was ready to jack it all in when the trail went cold. i m sure john wayne would never have done that.

watching any john wayne film cheers me up - also mid afternoon on a saturday when all the jobs are done, and the prospect of a glass of wine and a curry in the evening always lift my spirits

i used to long for extreme weather like they get in parts of america, but having had temperatures of minus 20 this winter, i think i ll settle for wet and mild in future. freezing cold winters seem to be becoming the norm

your guys seem to have their one day team sorted - lets hope we can get our problems ironed out before the world cup, not least who s going to open for us
cold and sunny here today by the way -
cold wet and miserable in lancashire - watching the cricket in australia has cheered me up though, not least cos we re winning again, but everything always looks better when you can watch a few hours of sunshine

Up until this week, i have hated the idea of this film. it was the first John wayne film i ever saw and my dad, a big jw fan, took us all to see it. Rooster Cogburn and John Wayne are as one in my mind and the thought of anyone else playing this part churns my stomach to the pit. however, i realise now, it would be narrow minded of me not to give it a go, so am going to see it (reluctantly) with the family next week. have also bought the book to read, and the postive thought that comes into my mind is that it may bring westerns to a whole new generation of people who have not been as luck as us and been brought up on westerns. Also, if it gets people interested in westerns in general and John Wayne in particular then it can only be good.
