My grandparents are from the "old country," and they work themselves into a tizzy every four years rooting for Team Germany. For myself, and for most other Americans, it's the ultimate non-event. It barely registers a blip on the sports radar screen here, although ESPN is trying their level best to promote the heck out of it here. Baseball, football, hockey, basketball, NASCAR, golf, ect. are all far more popular on this side of the pond.

Given the general paranoia surrounding airport security in general, I'm sure this set off quite the pandemonium this morning. Hard not to feel sorry for the poor gal who forgot the gun was in her bag and wound up in the slammer facing felony charges.

CLEARWATER - Kristy Louise Grove was preparing to board a flight at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport this morning when something in her carry-on bag caught the attention of screeners, authorities said.A .25-caliber Raven handgun with six bullets.
Grove, a 38-year-old marketing director, was trying to board an Allegiant Air flight to Chattanooga, Tenn., the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said. She told deputies she forgot the gun was in her bag.
Grove was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed firearm.

RIP Adele. A great lady and a wonderful actress. One of the many who probably deserved better than she got from Hollywood.

Had to rewatch: No Time For Sergeants. I love the scene where he is in teh mess hall and telling the Sergeant about what he did during his eye exam-saying that he angred the fellow because he couldnt make heads or tails out of it and saying that it had wierd words like: Upum, Gnixyl and Buglump. That has me roaring everytime I hear that.
Ringo, I, too, recently watched No Time For Sergeants w/Andy Griffith. Classic comedy.

Just to add a detail or two, Jeff Bridges is supposedly playing Rooster Cogburn, while Matt Damon is up for an unknown role.
http://www.empireonline.com/news/feed.asp?NID=26136
Jeff Bridges is Rooster (at least his father, Lloyd Bridges, knew something about classic westerns, maybe some of it rubbed off onto Jeff), Josh Brolin is playing Tom Chaney, and Matt Damon is the Texas Ranger!!!
Terrible casting, right off the bat. If anything, Brolin should play the Texas Ranger, and as for Matt Damon? Maybe he can be one of the outlaws who gets hung at the beginning of the picture. At least that way, he'd have a sack over his head so we wouldn't have to look at his smug, smirking face.

Something this morning on AMC that has Burt Lancaster as an Army Scout and Richard Jaeckel as a Cav Sergeant. I forgot the name of the movie which was OK but not great. Then-they (AMC) redeemed theirselves by showing Shenandoah ;-))
Ulzana's Raid (1972)

Holy Hell, Ringo, where have you been? It was released on DVD back in October of 2005. There was a discussion on it in the Mclintock movie review thread as where as elsewhere on the site, I'm sure. At any rate it's a great, full restored and remastered DVD in widescreen with perfect, crystal clear picture quality, and a whole bunch of extras. A must for any Duke fan's collection.
Cover shot (make sure you buy the DVD that looks like this one, the others are the cheap, public domain knockoffs):
You can buy it online here:

Here's a recently published interview with Dobe:
http://www.monstersandcritics.…tures/article_1502574.php
Unfortunately, one of the things he mentions toward the end of the article is that his long awaited, much delayed movie "swan song," the western Comanche Stallion has been shelved due to a lack of financing.

Hi
He could be the Narrator
Regards
ArthurSorry, Arthur, but I call
on that idea.I've always felt it was cheesy to try to claim that someone was "in" a movie because they were the narrator (like the way some people try to claim John Wayne and Spencer Tracy were in a movie together because Tracy narrated How the West Was Won). I'll give you a small cameo part, but the narrator? If you're not actually on screen, it doesn't count, I've always felt. Sorry, just a personal pet peve of mine.

How can you have a western without Henry Fonda, Kirk Douglas, James Garner & Robert Duvall?
Where's Gary Cooper?

New MasterCard commercial featuring Duke, Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, ect.

I have heard a lot lately about Californias woes. I think you all are probably getting taxed out of your homes to pay for all of their spending.
Speaking of Clint-just watched The Outlaw Josey Wales for the 3rd time this week. A local station seems to have a fix of somekind on that movie and Clint Eastwood. It's OK but I have not seen any local station play any of Dukes movies-which is irritating in the least. >:-((If you thing California is bad, you should come to New York. Over 60% of the workforce is employed by the government (and it gets worse and worse as more and more private sector people leave by the day). Downright disgusting.
