I have binged watched Billie The Kid. Not bad at all. Wonder if there will be another series as he was riding out into the sunset at the end of the last episode.
I watched The Adventures of Robin Hood with Erroll Flynn. It's been ages since any film of his was shown on our TV. I wish they'd show more.
Mannix?
First detective series I was allowed to stay up for on a saturdaynight late 60's/early 70's. I must have been about 8 or 9 and Mannix was a hero Classic TV Theme: Mannix (Lalo Schifrin) - YouTube
I've never heard of Mike Connors.
Not too sound offending but you obviously never saw Mannix.
I saw Hacksaw Ridge last night.
The Amazon TV Series ‘The English’. A first-rate cast, and described in a review as “a rare, sensational masterpiece”. As a story of, amongst other things, revenge, it has been compared to ‘The Searchers’. I confess I found it disappointing.
I am taping it from the BBC and when I have all the episodes (six I believe) I will bingewatch it when I have time. I have heard good reviews though but I will wait untill I watch it.
Murder at 1600 with Wesley Snipes. I propably saw it in the cinema back in the 90's but that, I can't remember. Really enjoyed watching it this time. Very good entertainment.
Seraphim Falls. Not a too bad western genre film. I had never heard of it before but it was a good watch.
The Sissi Trilogy, 1950's German films about empress Elisabeth of Austria. Pure kitsch and absolutely not what her life was like at all but those films are pure escape-ism. They will be shown next year around Christmas time and I will watch again like I have done every year since I saw them the first time when I was 8 years old.
Shown yesterday on our TV. It's been years since it was last on so I enjoyed it immensely. That music! Charles Bronson! Steve McQueen!
Saw this remake on our TV a few days ago, I liked it that a week earlier they showed Duke's True Grit. To be fair I still prefer Duke's but didn't dislike this new version. For whatever reason I hadn't seen it before and I decided to not compare it with Duke's True Grit. I did not succeed while watching the first 15 minutes or so but I did get over that and then I enjoyed the film a lot. Not as good as the original but not bad at all. Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon where good, I did not like the girl much. I didn't recognize Josh Brolin but he was good as Chaney. What I did miss was the humour that is in Duke's version. But then the Coen brothers don't do humour do they? Shall I watch this film again when it's shown on our tv? Yes I will. Not a favourite but good enough to watch again.
Nearly missed it last night, still don't know how it escaped my notice, but True Grit was on our TV and it was wonderful to see Duke again on one of our channels (never mind that I have the DVD)
The Quick & The Dead. Not really a favourite but when it's on TV I'll watch it if nothing else interesting is on.
This film was shown on our tv a while back and I finally took the time today to watch it. I honestly cannot remember if I ever saw this one before but I really, really enjoyed it. Very entertaining and enjoyable. Will keep this one on my digi-box for a while so I can watch again.
The Core, a disaster of a disastermovie. So bad that it becomes good
Tombstone, on our TV. I hadn't seen it for years so was a good catch up. And it's always nice to see Sam Elliott.
Cinema Rex bombing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This article is about the Belgian cinema destroyed by a V-2 rocket in World War II.
Cinema Rex was a cinema located at Keyserlei 15 in Antwerp, Belgium. It opened in 1935 and was designed by Leon Stynen, a Belgian architect, modeled after large American movie theatres.
On 16 December 1944 (the first day of the Ardennes Offensive), at 15:20, a V-2 rocket fired from The Netherlands (Hellendoorn) by the SS Werfer Battery 500 directly landed on the roof of the cinema during a showing of The Plainsman. There were approximately 1,100 people inside the cinema and the explosion killed 567 people including 296 Allied servicemen (194 further servicemen were injured) and 11 buildings in total destroyed. It took nearly a week to dig all the bodies out of the rubble. It was the single highest death total from a single rocket attack during the war. Following the attack all public performance venues were closed and the town council ordered that a maximum of 50 people were allowed to congregate in any one location.
The theatre was re-built in 1947 but closed in 1993 and was demolished in 1995.
I wasn't sure when it came out so never saw this film in the theatre but it has been shown several times on our TV and every time I watch it again. Is it a western? Is it Sci-Fi? Both I guess. I've seen worse films than this so next time it's shown I will watch it again
