And Happy Birthday to your Granny! 96 years! That’s great!

I agree. Looks to be him.
-
And it takes a certain level of humility, which he has obviously gained in his maturity, to be able to tell tales like that on yourself.
Thanks for sharing!

That was a great interview!

Wonder what Duke’s catering company was called, Dainties by Duke? 😜
-
I wish Yates had left him alone to make The Quiet Man the way he wanted to. I can’t help but think it would have been even better.
-
Thanks! For all the trouble Ford gave his actors, and Duke in particular, he was in my opinion the most gifted director we have ever had.

Thought this might be of interest.
How John Ford infused his movies with the heart of ChristThe great American director was recently honored at the TCM Film Festival. We look back at this complicated man and his faith-filled movies.aleteia.org -
Bill Picket was probably the most famous of the cowboys.
Here’s a Wikipedia article about him and a story about black rodeos in Oklahoma

Being a native Okie, I’m very proud of his association to our State and the City of Muskogee.
There’s a great statue of him over in Ft. Smith.
I just noticed the article about black cowboys. We have a great history in Oklahoma of black cowboys. One of the biggest black cowboy rodeos is held in Okmulgee.

I call BS on the main premise of the author saying that John Wayne was using his big closing scene in The Searchers as a statement on his views of the way Hollywood was heading.
It’s already been well documented and spoken by Duke himself what the meaning of that scene was and who he was honoring in it.
And as to the author’s statements of Duke being disgruntled about seeing the industry headed down the toilet well what can you say except that he was right!
By and large what we get out of Hollywood today is garbage. They haven’t had an original thought since 1978.
Duke saw it coming and was sad to see it. I’m sure part of his frustration was in the realization that he couldn’t prevent it.
-
That’s not in the movie. I wish Yates would have let Ford alone to let it run instead of cutting him off.

The Duke was Indiana Jones before Indiana Jones was cool!

A blessed Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This is my favorite film! Thanks for posting!

You wouldn’t be wrong Bob! 🙂

Being a native Okie, I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know this bit of history.
