Been watching some documentaries on the mafia lately, was watching the old british crime inc series. Great stuff

Nice piece Paula it's always great to hear more about these lesser mentioned figures. Just seen Jim Garner wrote the foreword to the book where they friends? I see on IMDB he doubled him in Maverick but Jim had another stuntman he used pretty much his whole career who looked very like him.

Yeah i'm abit late to the party but it's been very good so far and with everyone says how it gets even better my expectations are quite high!

Some more breaking bad, up to series 4 now and things are really heating up.

Good to see a new member!

Welcome, we're all big Duke fans on here and very friendly to boot!

Showdown with Rock Hudson and Dean Martin, was a decent Western from the latter part of their careers, seeing ol Dino is always a treat though.

The pilot of Bret Maverick The Lazy Ace, it didn't really have the feel of traditional Maverick for me though i'm willing to give it a go. Gutted to be finished the original series, might have to go back and watch the Jack Kelly/Roger Moore episodes

Escape Plan, it was decent but as a big Stallone fan I expected more.

The New Maverick, as a Maverick fan I was very disapointed in this, Garner was great as usual but the new young Maverick guy was terrible and it was sad to see Jack Kelly aged much before his time.

Not sure if this is already on the site so though i'd post it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2P2fY75Qlxs Ford is his usual difficult/amusing self.

Sorry to hear of your loss Ringo, hope you and your family are doing ok.

They were expendable, I thought it was good but could have benefited from being more story focused as most of Ford's films are rather than being full of war footage which often goes on far too long in war films from this era.

Nicely put Paula, I think this has the potential to be a very interesting look at the Duke and his legacy and why he's still so popular after all these years is a discussion I often have with people and enjoy having. I'm also curious to see how the Duke legend continues over my lifetime as his first generation fans continue to pass on. By the time I reach old age in 40 or so years I wonder will the Duke's legend still prevail the way it does today or whether i'll be a lone fan nearly 100 years out of date.

Chisum and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Chisum must be the most underatted movie the duke ever made.

Theater of Blood with Vincent Price, Halloween!
-
Tom Horn with Steve McQueen. A very interesting film about how the West quickly wanted to forget it's violent past and how a man must eventually pay for his crimes, one way or another.

The way the Duke's iconography relates to the world at large is a subject i'm hugely fascinated by and I consider one of the key reasons he is still so popular today. This is a fantastic idea for a book and I look forward to picking it up somwhere eventually, little pricey for me at the minute.
