DS, we're a little belated as well in expressing our sympathy over the loss of your cat - it can be a tough thing to lose a beloved pet. :cry2:

On a different note, have you folks heard about the nursing home cat who seems able to sense death? I've been hearing about it on the radio since yesterday.

Chester :newyear: and the Mrs. :angel1:

I saw it on CNN this morning. Not a cat that I'd want roaming around my house but cats do have a keen sense. If I'm not feeling well or having a bad day, my cat is right there, wanting to stay close. And cats do wonder for the nerves.

I liked some of the "Living Dead" movies. If I remember right it was in "Day of the Dead" when a farmer and his son are sitting on haybales and shooting at zombies and one of the kids keeps hitting them in the body but the keep getting back up and the dad says"No no no, you have to shoot them in the head like this....Boom!!!"

I know for the people that don't like these types of movies it sounds bad but if you watch them in the right context they can be rather funny. Atleast that is how I have watched them.

The original was the B&W movie Night of the Living Dead by George Romero where this couple is at a cemetery and the guy is playing around saying "They are coming to get you Barbara" because she was scared of the cemetery. Then out of the blue the zombie comes after them and kills the guy she runs and holds up at a farm house with some other people. Then it went into sequels. If it's a Romero movie it's good. The other spin-offs were pretty much crap. I think there were three sets of spin-offs and you could probably count this as a 4th. I like the vampire one with George Clooney called From Dusk Till Dawn. The more blood and guts the better.

I saw that movie I think. Did 28 Days later end with a military action in a church or something? I might be wrong, just trying to remember.

28 Days Later had some people make it out of the city and end up I think it was a school but the diseased goth through the lines and made it there too so I think it shows one or two that actually made it out alive. It's a good gross horror movie if you like those. Lind of along the lines of Return of the Living Dead. Like you have to shoot them in the head to kill them if not they keep coming type movie. I don't even know if the second movie is out yet but I got a screener which I get to basically critique it so it doesn't even have the title on the movie but it's called a working title.

The last 3 Star Wars movies were fairly recent and I don't want to crunch any more numbers than I have to. Onto another movie... I just got the screener for 28 Weeks Later which is the sequel to 28 Days Later. So far so good... really bloody and gory. Just the way I like them.

DS that's a good point, but maybe you can answer this. This special was originally shown in 1970 or 71. The program and the show was in mono format because television was not into that capacity at that time. So, what difference would it make if a show that was done mono back then could benefit today in Dolby 5.1 Stereo? I am just wondering because it seems to me that it would sound the same.

    Cheers  Hondo

These days they can digitally enhance the audio. Bring out sounds that before would sound flat or mono and enhance them to have the appearance of stereo output. Some use a stereo synthesizer to enhance the sound quality. Or to convert a mono recording to a stereo recording you need two copies of the mono audio. You then select which channels or frequencies will come out of which speaker. It all has to do with frequencies and by using the two mono copies you select those different frequencies to come out of the left or right speaker instead of everything being jammed into one speaker output. Confused yet?

Here's another example... take the movie The High and The Mighty. It was done in 1954, before stereo of course. Dolby Digital never came out until 1992 in theaters. If you look at the two disc set of The High and The Mighty you will see that they digitally enhanced the movie to not only play in 5.1 Surround but they also have the widescreen enhanced version for 16:9 TV's. It's a simple matter of technology. If you remember many many years ago when we went to the movies the screen was always wider than it was high. But when movies came out for home viewing they had to shrink to fit your TV screen. All they did was go back to the original film and use the entire width of the film instead of chopping it down to fit a 4:3 TV screen. In other words the filming industry was way ahead of the home viewing industry, once it caught up they can re-do movies for our new home technology. That's why the faster you switch over to HDTV widescreen you'll be able to enjoy the original filming of a movie that we were meant to see.

    Babble, babble, babble...

It's been on Amazon as a Pre-Release order item for some time now. My price is $17.99 with free 2nd day shipping. It should be a great DVD release. The only problem I have with it is it's being released by MPI Video. They don't always do a good job at re-releasing things. Plus the fact they didn't do anything to enhance the audio, it's still Dolby Digital 2.0 (Mono) instead of the better Dolby 5.1 Stereo.

I would be very careful of these sites... if they are not a production company you are probably getting homemade compilations of these shows. With all the DVD software out there these days it wouldn't take much to pirate DVD's or make your own from cable or satellite TV. Just my personal observation.

I've gotten several new books in the last few days... I don't know where to start.

I forgot to mention in the post about the 40th Anniversary of The Quiet Man special set of goodies. I have one of the numbered sets. They did a re-printing but didn't number them. It was more than 5000... just not sure how many. Mine is numbered and I have No. 5339

The number in on the back of the main sleeve, in the lower right corner, just to the right of the Republic Pictures Home Video logo and copyright info of:

©1991 REPUBLIC PICTURES CORPORATION. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Some other books I have recently added are really nice. One I just got today has numerous photos in it but a couple in particular I really liked...

    ..........

The first one is a huge 32 page movie program. Has some really nice movie shots inside the booklet. It's also large, 9" x 12". It was a souvenir book I suppose passed out or sold at the movies or somewhere. The second book is a small paperback. The one on the right has some really wonderful photos of Duke, his family and others... one photo in particular I am going to print and frame...

Then, a lot of people have asked about an old episode of Laugh-In where he was dressed as a rabbit. this book has a photo of that, not a perfect one but it was funny to see. I highly suggest if you can find this special memorial issue magazine on eBay, get it at any cost. It's a great buy.

is the grey on burmees it looks very similar to my sisters old cat.
    cheers smokey

Actually they are all mixed domestic cats. I won't pay for some purebred when there are so many shelter cats that need homes. My wife got the gray one about 14 years ago from another nurse at the hospital. They had a litter and my wife liked how he looked plus he's part Siamese. I'm glad she did because most of the rest of the litter ended up to be coyote food. When we got married the gray started to stick to me like glue. When I used to work he would know when I'm coming home before he even saw the truck. He knows when I'm not feeling well and won't leave my side. He gives me these looks like the cat is Shrek that just make you melt. He likes to pose also. Some people think cat lovers are nuts but I have a codicil that Oscar Wayne will be buried with me no matter who goes first.

(When he was 12 years old)

Our newest cat Henry Arthur. He was born on a farm, although he wasn't ferule he was pretty close. He was hard to handle when we first got him. He was about as close to wild as he could get. But he went from this:

    ....... to this.......
(When he was 9 months old to when he turned 2 years old this spring.)

and he's about one of the nicest cats we've had. In two years we transformed him, besides the obvious weight gain.

But back to the topic at hand, we will surely miss Priscilla Anne.

(When she was 14 years old.)

I've gotten a little behind lately... I hope to put in some time this weekend and hopefully finish up the website of our trip to Winternet. I still have many more pictures to share. Trying to juggle the new forum and dealing with an ailing 16 year old cat has taken it's toll. Today we were told our cat had an osteosarcoma of the right rear leg joint. The joint was fused with a 2" growth. Amputation was the only option was it was malignant so after a set of x-rays we decided there was only one humane option. We had to put poor Priscilla to sleep today.

She's the one in the middle. So hopefully things will get back on track shortly.

Sorry DS, I forgot to mention that the card needed sperate power. I just use one of the mylex power connectors off from the PS. If there is not enough space then use a jumper with a dual mylex plug.

But it sounds like you got it going so no worries, I have had no trouble with that card so it should work just fine.

The problem was the only connector was going to the floppy drive and the even newer power supplies don't even come with those smaller connectors. Fortunate for me I had a "wye" in my old cable stash from when I had my own business. We're kind of small here so no computer store. I was lucky I had one.
