  • Just when I thought that perhaps Hollywood had ran its course of reality shows and perhaps was going to turn to writers for some real entertainment again, I saw the upcoming movie thriller being advertised for "Aftershock". Dear God, have we hit the bottom of the barrel for story ideas?? We couldn't have! But then came the add for the new "Ripley's Believe it or not" hosted by Dean Caine. ....We've now gone from reality shows to officially rolling out the freak show! (Carnivals used to have these shows. The Bearded Lady and such.) This is so sad.

Oh, for the days of John Wayne and company and the likes of DesiLou Studios or writers like Rod Serling. Not necessarily CGI woven movies leaned on heavily for the entertainment portion, but good stories and story telling. We've gone from artful performances to pure flash , glitz and soft porn for family entertainment with high profits as the main goal.

Someone said that there was a new group of Conservative Director's, Writer's and such being formed after the Mel Gibson success of the Passion. What ever became of it? Who can we call upon to fill the void?

I Look forward to your thoughts. - Ben

  • Hi Ben, I definately hear you on that. This is one of the reasons why I no longer watch any current TV show with the exception of The Amazing Race. All the rest that are shown I do not care for. History Channel, Foor Network, Hallmark Channel, AMC, TCM, A&E, TVLand and Discovery, are basically the only channels I will watch anything on. The last "new" show I watched episodes fron was Becker and I did not even know about that show utill a few months after it went off the air.

  • Hi Jay, that's partly why all I watch are the older TV shows and Movies with the exception of Becker and The Amazing race and some documentaries and things like that. I can't stand the vast majority of what is currently out there. Oh well, in about a week I will have some more "old stuff" come in on DVD to watch. I just ordered a copy of Titanic w/ Richard Basehart, Robert Wagner, Barbara Stanwyck and Clifton Webb. The other is the 1st season of Hogan's Heroes. Next month will be 1st half of 2nd season of COMBAT mainly because there is a 2-parter episode with Richard Basehart in it. :D:D

  • Hey Carl,

You said, Next Month you will get the 1st and 2nd season of Combat {that's alright}, but what about the 5 DVD collection of John Wayne? And what about a great classic from the Disney Vaults, That Darn Cat (1965)?

And you can have a collection of classic DVD's without having in your collection of Bad Day at the Big Rock with Spencer Tracy and Robert Ryan.

  • Hi Hondo.D.L. I already have 1st season of COMBAT but I put of ordering the 2nd season because i'm waiting for another shipment to arrive before I place another order. I'm waiting on 1st season of Hogan's Heroes and "Titanic" w/Clifton Webb, Richard Basehart, Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner. Soon as these get in i'll be ordering 2nd season of COMBAT as well as Stalag 17.

On the John Wayne 5 DVD collection: It depends on what movies are in the collection and whether or not I already have them. Which movies are in that collection? As for Disney movies, those are very low on the buying Totem Pole even though I have 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

I have been wanting Bad Day At Black Rock for awhile now but, everytime I think of buying it, something else I have wanted even more is placed for sale. The latest of course does include a few of The Duke's movies like Stagecoach etc. Now that Warner Bros is releasing some of Errol Flynn's best movies, I HAVE to get those fairly quickly as well. :)

Of course, everything listed above will be put on the back burners to get if they release the 2nd and other seasons of Hogan's Heroes. I simply love that show even if its not a popular show for some others.

    Cheers & Rootbeers. C.

  • Thanks Arthur for that. Just pecking away and not paying attention.

Ringo, the 5 DVD John Wayne collection is McQ, Blood Alley, Tall in the Saddle, The Train Robbers & The Sea Chase. These movies are first time releases on DVD and are offered as a set or individuals. You'll find them very cheap as a set. As for That Darn Cat (1965), a great classic with Halley Mills, Roddy McDowell and Dean Jones. This is a great movie, and don't judge Disney from the idiots of today, it was much different back then.

Thanks for all the comments so far. Very interesting. I still, am looking for an answer to my question (Listed above) though. Thanks. - Ben

  • Ben,

I've been looking into your question and trying to tie in what your question is about. I'd like for you to explain something to me. What is the source of your question so I may look into what you are talking about? I have ran cross references and came with with conservative actors who are taking stands, but not sure about the writers or directors. Not to say there are none, but what have you heard?

    Cheers B)

  • Sure Hondo,
Right after Mel Gibson's successful release of "The Passion", there was talk in the media of Mel possibly getting together with a group of conservative director's, writer's and distributer's to put together a new motion picture company, / or group of companies, to rival Hollywood. They wanted to return to the Hollywood of old, without the liberal's whom have taken over the Hollywood of today, and start producing movies with conservative values and focus on good writing and acting rather than fluff and soft porn in mind numbing performances for quick sales of box office tickets.

This was over nine months ago. Of course the main stream media wont talk about it any more than they have too. (My guess is that we'll have to drag them kicking and screaming into covering the emergance of such an industry.) Sorry, I don't know much more than that. - Ben

  • Jay,

Thanks for the information. I can't find anything right now aobut your topic, but I will keep looking. I haven't heard anything on this. Gibson has been a little busy with Passion and some of the political attacks he's been facing, and I think that the stalking case is going to court very soon.

Let me look into more sites to see if there is anything going on. I haven't found anything on this, but would be interesting to see if this is taling place.

    Cheers B)
