  • "Silverado" (1985)
    -Kevin Kline, Scott Glen

    Plot: IMDB

A misfit bunch of friends come together to right the injustices which exist in a small town.

Phantom's Review: One of my all time favorite westerns. They take practically every cliche in the book, mix it up and create a wonderful light hearted western adventure. Wonderful cast, fun story and great action. I love this film.

They'd never forget the day,the stranger rode into town

  • Yep. Isn't it interesting how it was near the END of the show's run that they showed his character's origin?!

A buddy of mine, who was an A-list TV director for several years (but an AD in those days) told me it was in response to numerous request by the viewers to "know more!"

Well, Russ, I think they did a very good job of it, anyway. To see Paladin cry after all those years was MORE than moving! And I thought the story and the way it was handled was quite believable to explain everything about the whole series in one short half hour. I still wish the series had been an hour. But the writers were incredible to develop stories with such character and interest in only thirty short minutes. Sure, I thought things were rushed a bit sometimes, like...as a nurse, I have seen some fairly savage fist fights results, and I as bar owner, have seen some REAL fights....always OUTSIDE of the bar as they knew they wouldn't be allowed in again otherwise.. You are not all better and clean faced an hour or so later, LOL. In fact, just a few mid belly uppercut punches from a medium sized guy can make it difficult and painful just to rise from a chair! But, as I said, they did the very best they could with only that short thirty minutes. I don't know of another thirty minute western that was that sophisticated and story credible. OK, Sorry, did it again. Keith

  • Haven't seen that since the movies long time ago. Must look for it somewhere. I don't remember Redford as being that bad, but I DO remember not thinking of him as the type to be able to survive trapping. And, as I am unofficial member of the AMA, (American Mountain Men), and have passed all the tests to be one, I do have a good feel for who would make it and who wouldn't LOL! Wonder why the intermission? Wasn't filmed in 3D was it? Wonder how Brian Keith or even Ben Johnson would have fared in it?

  • Hey Keith! I wasn't trying to imply that I didn't like the episode, or HGWT. Quite the contrary! I LOVED the show, and still watch it.

What I meant was, the writers were trying to keep some mystery going about Paladin, and only after YEARS of letters from the fans, did they see the need for the episode with "Smoke," which I thought was very well done.

I wish Richard Boone could've lived long enough to do the commentary for the DVDs.

  • The Big Country. Hellgate, with MY Ward Bond, LOL!
Oh, I didn't take it that way at all, Russ. Glad to know why they finally did the Smoke episode, also, thanks.
Now, wouldn't that have been GREAT. I get so much out of the "extras" on the DVDs......would have been wonderful if Dick had been able to do the ones on his! Never liked him at the beginning........now I really miss him. Wonder where the heck Peridot is........hope he or his computer aren't sick! Where are you Peridot? We are talking about your man. And we have a sighting of Nimoy in something else you may not know about! Night Russ and all, Keith

Sorry, learned that last night in your PM. I cannot find where someone spotted Leonard.......but, it was not in HGWT, so you might already know about it. I will keep looking though......hmmmm, might be in my email. Will let you knot if I find it.

If any of yall told me about it, please speak up, LOL......thanks, Keith

  • Hi Peridot. I mentioned in an email to Keith that Nimoy appeared in "Them" along with future Davy Crocketts Fess Parker and James Arness. Leonard has one line, so you have to look fast.

    We deal in lead, friend.

  • Watched Big Jake yesterday. Although I still pine for the unedited version, I enjoyed the film. Whenever the Duke and Boone are together, there a good film will be.:thumbs_up:

  • EL DORADO thanks to a friend! Got to see and hear my old friend Tony who was the specialist Doc in the movie. The scenes and dialogue he had earned him a simple "uncredited", but since I have lost touch with him and his brother Rex, it was just great to see and hear him! Keith
