however, i think films like this have got a massive role to play in keeping the sacrifices of the 2nd world war alive to future generations . . . .

Excellent insight, as I myself, while growing up in the fifties and sixties, probably watched about every WWII movie that had been made. It gave me a very good perspective on what happened during the war. As I've since realized, much of it had a very biased perspective, but in retrospect, having our Navy sunk in Pearl Harbor would tend to give one a bias. By continuing these movies into the future, it continues to give future generations an awareness of what can happen in this world.
