As I recall, I read somewhere that Katherine Ross did not like working with the Duke because of his conservative outlook, which is strange because she married Sam Elliott, who I believe is also very conservative.
Sam Elliott is a left-wing Democrat. He is a vocal critic of Donald Trump and the Catholic Church, and he openly supported Joe Biden in the last election.

I can't think of ever seeing any direct comments by Duke on "Hellfighters"...but he did say many of his movies in the 1960s were what he called "pay the bills movies".

I think he only did "Hellfighters" because it was intended as a tribute to "Red" Adair.

Looks like he mostly worked in television after HHellfighters. The 70s was the decade of the TV movie.

I was wrong. I thought "Hellfighters" was his last movie, but apparently he was in one called "Psychic Killer".
