THE WAY WEST 1967 starring Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum, and Richard Widmark and directed by Andrew McLaglen. A large cast including regulars such as Dobe Carey, John Mitchum, Jack Elam, Stubby Hayes, Sally Field and many other recognizables. Decent storyline but the production was great. Real conestoga wagons, oxen, not just horses, many complete character studies. The trip down the mountain to the stream bed was very realistic showing wagons, oxen and mules, and eventually people being lowered by rigs and block and tackle outfits. Stunt work included Jim Burk and Hal Needham among others. All in all a good film. Strange I never ran into it before. You can catch it on Youtube.
