The blu ray released through Walmart is fantastic! It also has the DVD with it do you can watch either. I was amazed at the quality.

Stunning pic. I really rated this film, considering when it was made and the length of time between this and stagecoach it is all the more remarkable.

I was amazed at how well it has stood up. Very enjoyable -
Near the beginning of The Big Trail there is a humorous scene showing actor El Brendel carrying a couple ladies over a muddy area in a street. That scene was shot at the corner of Front Street and K. Street in Old Sacramento. Here are a couple still frames from that scene, and how that corner appears today.

Finally watched my Blu-ray version of THE BIG TRAIL. I was amazed at the difference in quality of video and especially sound of this version over the DVD copy I had. Very enjoyable this time through. Caught Ward Bond in three scenes and actually understood all the dialogue for the first time.

This is one of my top five favorite John Wayne movies. I can watch it again and again without getting tired of it. I think it is quite simply one of the most amazing movies ever made.

I really loved "The Big Trail". I wasn't expecting much when I watched it, but I was pleasantly surprised. The video quality was impressive for a 1930 film, for one thing. For another, although the Duke's acting was not nearly what it would become one day, I thought that his inexperience was better suited to this particular role than if he had been more polished. It lent more of an authenticity to his character.

Nice write up/review of the movie!!
One thing that strikes me about that movie, is how raw Duke seemed in that picture. Raw talent. I haven't watch it in a while, might be time to pull it back out and get some popcorn.
