Please correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Phyllis Thaxter play the part of Lois Lane in the TV series before Noel Neill(SP?)?

May she Rest in Peace. I just saw about 10 days ago, an original USO WWII pics of Bob Hope and Jerry Calonna on tour with Humphry Bogart and Jack Benny--for auction. I tried for them but there was a bidding war going on so I lost out on them BUt gained a nice original pic of Fieldmarshall Wilhelm Josef Franz Ritter von Leeb chatting with Ewald von Kleist as well as two other great shots.

Ironically, the other day, I was thinking about Bob Hope & Jerry Calonna and the USO Christmas shows. Then I read the news about Dolores Hope today. May she rest in peace. And "Thanks for the Memories"!!

It doesn't surprise me one bit, Chester!! And, of course, not only is he in the top ten this time, but in the top five.

But to me, and I'm sure many others, he will ALWAYS be NUMBER ONE!!
(Sorry for "shouting", but I just couldn't help it!!)

James MacArthur also appeared in True Grit. He was the preacher presiding at the hanging in Fort Smith. Not a big role, just a bit part really, but it was him. Another connection to John Wayne, albeit a small one, gone. RIP Mr. MacArthur.

I've seen True Grit MANY times and I don't recall James MacArthur being in the film either. I also checked out a couple of cast sites and saw no reference whatsoever. But who knows?

I've been a die-hard fan of John Wayne since the summer of 1969 - when I was 15 years old. I saw him on the Joey Bishop show, where he was plugging his movie, True Grit.

I sent Duke a fan letter in October, 1969 and received an autograph picture of him as Rooster Cogburn.

In 1972, I went to Radio City Music Hall to see his movie, The Cowboys. When the movie was over, John Wayne, as well as Roscoe Lee Browne and Mark Rydell walked out onto the stage!! What a thrill!!

Duke passed away the day after my 25th birthday (June 11th, 1979). I cried all day.
