His real name was Conrad Scott Forbes and he was born in High Wycombe. He attended Repton University College London and Balliol Oxford. During the Second World War he served in the RAF until 1943 when he was invalided out and for the remainder of the war worked in the Ministry of Economic Warfare. 6'-2" and very handsome he turned to acting and adopting the name Julian Dallas appeared on stage in the West End. He made his screen debut in the 1946 picture Night Boat to Dublin and played a Frenchman in The Reluctant Widow (1950).

At that point with all the British film magazines raving about his future, he diappeared and resurfaced as Scott Forbes working for Warner Brothers, appearing in American TV Westerns such as The Adventures of Jim Bowie using a very believable Southern accent. which he quickly turned into an American accent to the point where he accepted as American.

Officially it was then decided that it was too much for an American audience to accept a British public school boy impersonating a hero of the American west so a fictional biography of him was concoted whereupon he had been born in South Africa but raised in Pennsylvania.

Later in the 60s he returned to UK and spent his time writing.

4 years ago the actor Lawrence Tierney died aged 82 known for his gangster films he featured in Back to Bataan. I liked him in The Greatest Show on Earth.

97 years ago the actress Lois Moran was born. A very beautiful looking woman. She lost two fathers in the first nine years of her life and later her mother moved to Paris where she was educated. Her first two films were French and then she was brought to Hollywood. Much of her work was done at Fox. Much of her work was mediocre and in 1931 she retired from films. After spending a further four years on the New York stage she retired completely.

95 years ago the actor O.Z. Whitehead was born. One of John Ford's stock company he played Hoppy in The Horse Soliers but in one of the starangest pieces of casting ever in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance at the age of fifty-one he played a lollipop licking schoolboy.

16 years ago Raymond St Jacques died from the effects of lymph cancer at the age of 75 he was in The Green Berets.

87 years ago the actress Jennifer Jones was born, as Phyillis Isley she came to Hollwood with her Husband Robert Walker and made her screen debut in New Frontier. Later she married her second husband David O Selznick who changed her name and her image to the fine actress she became.

10 years ago the actor lyle Talbot died aged 94 in hundreds of film and television productions he appeared in College Coach and The Life of Jimmy Dolan.

102 years ago The actor George Meeker was born. A mainly supporting actor in hundreds of pictures he appeared in The Life of Jimmy Dolan and also for John Ford as Augustus Bernle in Four Sons.

39 years ago The actor Mischa Auer died aged 62 Tall and Thin his Eropan upbringing made him ideal for playing mystery men. He featured in Seven Sinners.

26 years ago Jay Silverheels died aged 67 the son of a Mohawk chief he was born on a Canadian reservation. Best known for his role of Tonto in theLone Ranger, he played one of the condemned men at the hanging in True Grit.

13 years ago the German actor H.C. Blech died aged 78 playing the major in the Longest Day he also appeared in The Battle of the bulge and the Bridge at Remmigan.
