106 years ago Bill Nagy was born he had a small role in The Longest Day.
85 years ago John Doucette was born. A very underated actor he appeared as the undertaker in The Sons of Katie Elder.
82 years ago Telly Savalas saw the light of day. Famous as Kojac and the Dirty Dozen, he appeared in The Greatest Story Ever Told.
74 years ago Tom Irish was born he played the lieutenent in Hondo.
70 years ago the actor James Bradbury jnr committed suicide at the age of 41 he had featured in the serial Shadow of the Eagle.
66 years ago the actor Otis harlan died aged74 he was in The Telegraph Trail.
51 years ago Island in the Sky was released in Sweden.
47 years ago the director Cecil B DeMille died aged 77.
The director of The Ten Commandments, The Plainsman and Reap The Wild Wind. John Wayne approached DeMille when he was desperately looking for work asking for a role in The Plainsman. DeMille refused him reminding him of his appearance in the Big Trail. Later when casting Northwest Mounted Police and at a time when Wayne was becoming well known, DeMille approached him to play the second lead. Wayne turned him down reminding him of his earlier interview. Luckily the men got together to do Reap the Wild Wind. Both found the experience enjoyable but only worked with each other once.
and on that same day 47 years ago the actor Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer died aged 31. One of the original member of the Our Gang series of pictures he also appeared in The High and the Mighty. Later falling on hard times he became involved in an arguement over an unpaid debt and was shot.
43 years ago the veteran actor Al 'Fuzzy' St John died aged 69. During his career he appeared in 313 pictures often playing the heroes sidekick, but in Riders of Destiny he appeared as a henchman, and in His Private Secretary he was the owner of a garage.
18 years ago the actorAbraham Sofaer died aged 91. Born in Rangoon Burma he is perhaps best known for his portrayal of the judge in the British film A Matter of Life and Death starring David Niven. He also played Joseph of Aramtheia in |The Greatest Story Ever Told and the Indian Chief White Buffalo in his final film Chisum.
9 years ago the actress Polly Ann Young died aged 88 she had played the romantic lead in The Man From Utah.
