Ringo Kid, brother you just said the right words. Pecan pie. My father used to make us go out and pick up pecans from the trees we had in the back yard. My aunt would use those fresh pecans and make the best pie. I only have the option of the frozen type up here in the Oregon wilderness, but every once in a while we will find one in a restaurant. I think you and I could do some eatin if we get the chance. Ethan, I'm not sure what treacle sponge and custard is, but I'm willing to give anything a try.

Hi Bopoppa, i'd definately look forward to doing that! Corpus Christi has many great places to eat at here.
A few examples:
U&I Restaurant (which is owned by Greeks) Everything I ever had there was no less than excellent--dessert included.
Montana Mikes another excelelnt place ane now one of my most favorite of new restaurants. M.M has been here now I think a full year.
Cracker Barrel, my absolute favorite place in town. Not kidding, I have probably eaten there at least 1,000 times in the past 10 years. I have only been disappointed eating there once--which was on Thanksgiving about 2 years ago.
Taste of Texas, one of many great steakhouses in town. Always a great place to go to.
Texas Roadhouse, another great steakhouse.
Longhorn Steak & Ale, another Greek owned restaurant, and another great place to eat. I have never been unsatisfied with a meal from them.
Longhorn Steakhouse (not affiliated with the one named above) used to be excellent, but has gone a bit downhill--tho--still not too bad of a place to eat at. You HAVE to try their Cucumber Sauce--man that stuff is delicious & fattening.
Another place I frequent at least 2-4 times a month is Furr's Cafeteria. The Furrs here in C.C. is excellent and cannot be compared to other Furrs Cafeterias. Also, they have an added benefit. I know three of the waitresses there very well and I get my weekly hugs from all three of them everytime I go there. And besides, all three of them are very pretty Senoritas (SP?)
Now if you want good Hamburgers in this town, you have to go to Wal-Bangers. Since we no longer have a Bennegans, Wal-bangers is THE place in town to go to for hamburgers.
Best Pizza place in town used to be Dentoni's but they closed. Now if you want a decently good pizza, you have to go to Papa John's.
Floyd's used to be the best place in town for a Chickenfried Steak, then went downhill for a few years but, I heard they were making an impressive comeback.
Bubba's Icehouse used to be a great place as well but kept changing hands. The first owner ran a great place but, sold out to some Mexican fellow who almost ruined the business. Luckily, he sold it to some lady who has (happily) turned that place around and is doing really well.
Want a great breakfast, the best two places in town are: (believe it or not) Golden Corral and IHOP.
Italian:
My favorite place in town is the Olive Garden.
Chinese:
My favorite place in town is: Mandarin Gardens.
I know it looks like we eat out all the time here but, it really aint the case. We just go to a different one until we run out of them and then start over.
Oh and, the best place to buy Cake from in town is a place called: Janet's Cakery.
The best actual Bakery in town is: Ayers (Dixie Cream) Bakery. They have the best Doughnuts one will ever eat. They are way better than Dunkin' Doughnuts is no longer in the area but I remember their s were pretty good--though the last time I ate there was in Kingsville and I was probably about 6 years odl--well-over 30 years ago., Krispy Kreme (which I cannot stand, I ate there once a few months after they first opened here) as well as Shipleys (which is alot like Krispy Kreme) as their Doughnuts to me taste like eating cake for breakfast.
Good stuff. I will try it as soon as I get a chance. The article said it was a simple task, but usually the simple ones turn out the most wicked.
I tell you, I like to eat at Furrs as well. Furrs and Luby's are getting harder to find and are non-existent up here. I guess if we lose touch I could always hang out at the Cracker Barrel to find ya. So many good restaurants down home. There isn't a lack of them here, just a different menu. NOW, about them senoritas!! 
They sure make the food taste better don't they? I wish I could have a few of them hugs, but my senorita wife would take it to me. Hot blooded, mean-tempered,jealous....... Gotta love em. If I ever get to settle down, I'll throw on some steaks on the grill, sit back and enjoy some beer and ceviche.

Unfortunately, they were all bought up by recent immigrants from China, and then, the quality didn't seem to be the same. One by one, they then changed names and/or, went out of business.
where the stars at night, are big and bright (clap clap clap) deep in the heart of Texas. 
Also, I echo what Jay said about Dairy Queen--I love that place. Man, their ice cream is so darn gooooooooooooood. Their chicken strips are great but I still favor the ones from Bennegan's much more. Their Hunger-busters ARE so good. I normally do not think of D.Q. for burgers though because we habe Wal-Bangers, Whataburger, Wendy's and (sic) McDonalds within about 5 minutes walking distance from my flat.
You are correct, those spicy women of American-Mexican heritage, sure do have tempers but on the good side of things, they can sure "rock" your world as well. Another thing, if one has an ego, being with these three lovely ladies can sure bring up ones morale as well.
