  • Two Charlton Heston Westerns I recently got were pretty-good to great. One was: Three Violent People-which also has Gilbert Roland and Jameel Farah (aka) Jamie Farr-from M*A*S*H fame 2) was The Far Country which also had Fred MacMurray and William Demmarest. One I had never seen (the 1st one) and the other I never saw all the way through and thought it was magnificent-to say the least.

  • Well, at least some of those new movies I bought aren't too bad.

I watched a Joel McCrea Western this afternoon called "Four Faces West" that was actually pretty good. And believe it or not, there wasn't a signle shot fired in the whole picture. For a Western, that's kinda hard to believe. Co-starred Charles Bickford as Pat Garrett.

    De gustibus non est disputandum

  • Some more Westerns I can recommend are:

    The Westerner w/ Gary Cooper.

4 For Texas w/ Frank 'Ol Blue Eyes" Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Brokan Arrow w/ Jeff Chandler and I think James Stewart.

5 Card Stud w/ Dean Martin.

Sergeants 3 w/ "ol Blue Eyes Sinatra, Dean MArtin, Sammy Davis Jr. Joey Bishop and the last guy in the Rat Pack.

Last Train From Gun Hill w/ Kirk Douglas.

The Way West, Escort West, Lawman, Silver Lode, Jesse James, The Man From Colorado, War Arrow, The Rare Breed, The Ox-Bow Incident, Terror in a Texas Town,

Joe Kidd w/ Clint Eastwood, Alan Hale Jr, and L.Q.Jones.

Bend of the River w/ James Stewart, Arthur Kennedy and Harry Morgan.

Cimmarron City, Blazing Across the Pecos, Texas, Destry Rides Again,

    Fighting Caravans w/ Gary Cooper.

Flame of the Barbery Coast, The Texican, The Hunting Party, Broken Lance,

The Last Frontier w/ I think Victor Mature.

    The Scalphunters w/ Burt Lancaster,

Tumbling Tumbleweeds w/ I think Audie Murphy,

Warlock w/ Richard Widmark and I think Anthony Quinn,

The Last Outpost (aka) Cavalry Charge) w/ Ronald Reagan & Bruce Bennett.

    Chucka w/ Sir John Mills,

    Just to name a few.

  • Personally, I enjoy the fool out of those B westerns of 1930-1955. The further out i go from 1960 the less there is in terms of western that I enjoy. Robert Mitchum is one person I enjoy, but I don't think he made too many westerns after the entertaining Five Card Stud.
But the ultimate for me is Mill Creek's 250 western collection, although they're are some stinkers from the Spaghetti era.... nothing like a dubbed Jack Palance and Lee Van Cleef and Richard Boone to excite ya. And I just have to say that Tom Tyler is awesome.

  • Another Western that I highly recommend is: The Villain w/ Kirk Douglas as: Cactus Jack Slade.

This movie is a hoot and also stars: Ahnuld Schwarzenegger as Handsome Stranger, Ann Margaret, Jack Elam as: The Evil Banker, Foster Brooks as: The Bank Clerk, Mel Tillis as: The Telegraph Operator, Paul Lynde as: Nerrrrrvous Elk, Robert Tissier as: One of Nervous Elks Indians, and last but not least, Strother Martin as: Ann Margarets Father.
