  • Okay folks, here's a little John Wayne trivia to tickle your brain cells. The questions are not too hard, and hopefully you'll find them to be a little bit of fun.

    1. In what film would you find the line: "Bat Masterson always was full of sheep dip."?

    2. In what film would you find a character named "Budger"?

    3. On what imaginary South Sea island does the film "Donovan's Reef" take place?

    4. In what two John Wayne films will you find a primary character with the name of "Gilhooley"?

    5. What was the name of the founding editor of the Shinbone Star, and who played him?

    6. What two John Wayne films feature a tribute to Harry Carey, Sr.?

    7. Aside from John Wayne, two actors who appeared in "Hondo", also appeared in "McLintock!" Who were they and what characters did they play in each film?

    8. What exactly is a "Cheechalker"?

    9. Who was originally slated to play Dan Roman in "The High And The Mighty"?

    10. In "The Comancheros" what was the name of the gun runner, and who played him?

Good Luck, I'll post the answers in a couple of days!

  • Hi Colorado Bob,
The questions was very interesting, but of course I have no chance to answer them. I even didn't see yet most of the films, you mentioned. It is always interests me, how many JW films have you see?
    Regards,
    Senta

  • Hi Senta,
How many have I seen? Well, I have 147 John Wayne films in my collection, and I've seen all of them at least once, most more than that, plus a few dozen documentaries, TV shows, Specials, etc..., so not counting them, I'd have to say 147. My family says I need to get a life!

  • Senta, don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I tried the quiz and I did not get any of the ones I answered correct. :headbonk: I might try the quiz again after I take a cruise through the IMDB site.

    Hi Colorado Bob,
I have only 32 in my collection now, but I'm a very newbe JW fun, so I look forward and hope to see the others.

    Ringo,
It is nice to hear from you again, I'm glad that you are all right. I didn't worrying about my little knowlege at all. Instead I feel myself little exited becouse there are so many great Dukes films for me in the nearest future. And each new gives me so great joy and pleasure. And it is the reason that the last weeks I sometimes smile without any reason.
It is great to find a hero like Duke.
    Regards,
    Senta

  • Hi Senta, it is a pleasure of mine to also hear from you again as well. ;-)) Thank you and thank goodness that we came through the storm in perfect order. Heh heh, I DO worry about my lack of knowledge about Duke's films being as I love most of em and also being a member of this great site. :-)) Sam goes for me when I get a new Duke film. I can't wait till Hondo and McClintock are released so i can et them as well and mave a "Duke Weekend" at my house. I fully agree with you, I too think of The Duke a s agreat hero.

    Take care my friend--C.

PS, if you wish and by private message, if you send me your address, I would like to send something to you which has to do with The Duke. :cowboy:

Whoops! You're absolutely right General! See, that's why you're a General and I'm only a sergeant (at work). Thanks!

  • Well I just found this thread and I for one would definitely be interested in another trivia quiz. I actually was able to answer most of the ones here.

  • Howdy gt12pak,
Glad you enjoyed it. I'll squeeze my brain cells and see if I can't come up with a few more questions for y'all. Just give me a couple of days.
    Best Always,

  • It seems like there was some interest in doing this, but I know Colorado Bob is a pretty busy guy, so I don't think he'd mind if I revive this thread.

In order to give everyone an equal chance to get credit for knowing their John Wayne trivia, I'd like to use the same model that dukefan1 has used in the What's on TV? thread. Those who want to play can PM me with your answers, and in a week I'll post the correct answers and the names of those who got it right.

    Here's the first question -

John Wayne generally wore a cowboy hat in most of his westerns, but donned a coonskin cap in a number of his films. Name four.

    Chester :newyear:

  • Hi Chester

Its probably my lack of knowledge on this subject but I was always pretty certain he only wore this type of hat in three movies, can you confirm that there are at least four movies in which he wears this type of hat?
