Personal quotes
I recall playing practical jokes with John Wayne. I once got a whole bunch of keys and had little tags made that said, "If lost, please return to John Wayne, RKO Studios. Reward." And I just dropped them all over town. [He got a lot of] phone calls, people showing up at the studio. He never learned who did it.
Mini biography
Born into a prominent Mormon family in Utah, Laraine Day's acting career began after her parents moved to Long Beach, California, where she joined the Long Beach Players. She appeared in her first film in 1937 in a bit part, then did leads in several George O'Brien westerns. Signing a contract with MGM, she achieved popularity playing the part of Nurse Lamont in that studio's "Dr. Kildare" series. An atractive, engaging performer, she had leads in several medium-budget films for various studios, but never achieved major stardom. She was married for 13 years to baseball manager Leo Durocher, and took such an active interest in his career and the sport of baseball in general that she became known as "The First Lady of Baseball."

Mini Biography-2
from Leonard Maltin's Movie Encyclopedia:
Even as the button-cute ingenue of Border G-Men and The Painted Desert two 1938 George O'Brien B Westerns made for RKO, this demure actress showed great promise. The daughter of a prominent Mormon businessman, she'd taken up acting with the Long Beach Players stock company and won a bit role in the classic weepie Stella Dallas (1937). Immediately following her Western chores, she was signed to a contract by MGM, which changed her surname to Day and placed her in Sergeant Madden and Tarzan Finds a Son (both 1939) before adding her to the Dr. Kildare series as love interest for Lew Ayres. Cast as Nurse Mary Lamont, she made seven films in the series, beginning with Calling Dr. Kildare (1939) and ending with Dr. Kildare's Wedding Day (1941, in which her character was killed off, a rare occurrence in movie series). Alfred Hitchcock borrowed her to be leading lady in his Foreign Correspondent (1940), and after the Kildares, MGM (and then RKO) promoted her to starring roles in popular audience fare.
Day's major films include Mr. Lucky (a big hit that paired her with Cary Grant), Journey for Margaret (both 1943), Bride by Mistake (1944), Those Endearing Young Charms, Keep Your Powder Dry (both 1945), The Locket (1946, an effective performance as a psychopath), Tycoon (1947), My Dear Secretary (1948), and Woman on Pier 13 (1949). She worked less frequently during the 1950s (although she was memorable as part of the ensemble cast of 1954's The High and the Mighty partially because, as the wife of baseball manager Leo Durocher, she became active in the game, earning the sobriquet "First Lady of Baseball." Her last feature film was House of Dracula's Daughter (1972). She has written two books: "Day With Giants" and "The America We Love."
