  • The bloom is off the rose......

As the article truthfully says, California's woes have been primarily caused by a failure of the pols in Sacramento. As always, when times were good, they spent money like there was no tomorrow. What politicians always forget is that there are always more tomorrows.

  • Tom would make a good one Stumpy.

My concern though is that he's too honest to be electable to that office.

  • All I can say, it's about time. Almost every day, I read about another negative development that has happened in the parent country of the US (and the land of my ancestors), and I cringe.

  • Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?

Plantation , FL -- Last week police were called to investigate an attempted
    armed robbery:

The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a
Plantation, FL, Subway shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically
wounding the other, is described as John Lovell, a former helicopter
pilot for two presidents. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, and he
works out everyday. Mr. Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night.

According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the
Subway at 1949 N. Pine Rd. Just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, Mr.
Lovell, who was finishing his meal.. After robbing the cashier, the two
men attempted to shove Mr. Lovell into a bathroom and rob him as well.
They got his money, but then Mr. Lovell pulled his handgun and opened
fire. He shot one of the thieves in the head and chest and the other in
    the head.

When police arrived, they found one of the men in the shop, K-9
units found the other in the bushes of a nearby business.. They also
found cash strewn around the front of the sandwich shop according to
Detective Robert Rettig of the Plantation Police Department.

Both men were taken to the Broward General Medical Center , where
one, Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale died. The other,
21-year-old Frederick Gadson of Fort Lauderdale is in critical but stable
    condition

A longtime friend of Lovell was not surprised to hear what
happened. The friend said, ''He'd give you the shirt off his back, but
he'd be mad as hell if someone tried to take the shirt off your back.''
Mr. Lovell was a pilot in the Marine Corps, flying former Presidents John
    F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. He later worked as a pilot for Pan Am
    and Delta.

He is not expected to be charged authorities said. ''He was in
fear for his life,'' Detective Rettig said, "These criminals ought to
realize that most men in their 70's have military backgrounds and aren't
    intimidated by idiots."

Something tells me this old Marine wasn't 'in fear for his life',
even though his life was definitely at risk. The only thing he could be
charged with is participating in an unfair fight. One 71 - year young
Marine against two punks. Two head shots and one center body mass shot -
outstanding shooting! That'll teach them not to get between a Marine and
    his meal.

Florida law allows eligible citizens to carry a concealed weapon.
    Every state should.

  • The present United States is to be becoming socialism according to Newsweek February 16.
    "We are all socialist now"
On the other hand, Russia and China are changing into capitalism.
Politicians in Japan have been perplexed how doing in the future.
    Wher's good old America?

  • I cant believe the nonsense that Obama's putting money aside for Universal Health Care in the nations budget.

    This is from a article
"President Obama's soon-to-be released budget will reportedly contain $634 billion to pay for universal health care"

This is the US population 303,824,640 (july 08)
634 billion comes out to a little over 2000 dollars per person

A coworker of mine broke his ankle, his bill was 15,000 dollars
I had pnemonia last summer and went to a doctor it was 200 dollars.
It is obvious to me anyways that the idea of govt funded health care is rediculous and impossible as well as socialist. I do not support the concept obviously and am just putting it into perspective. One person could break his ankle and deprive 7 1/2 of their health care. I guess we'll just have to print some more money or borrow some from another country:omg:

  • As we can see here, there's little difference in the wasteful spending of the two party's elected representatives. One is as bad as the other. That's why anymore, my attitude is "a pox on ALL their houses".

I really do believe that the only cure for this is an imposition of term limits on members of Congress.

  • I'll vote for 'im! Hell, he couldn't be any worse than what we have.

Believe it or not, this guy and I went to the same school for a couple of years back in the Golden Decade.

  • I often visit a political forum (surprise, surprise) where various people post comments concerning events of the day. The following are recent spot-on examples about Obambi and his administration. Naturally, I agree with the posters' remarks, especially #5 (as you knew I would.....lol):

"The daily bombardment of B-HO is getting harder to take. Every freakin' day this obamanation is on the TV announcing how he's spending our money from yet another location.

Author points out that B-HO is a rerun of the worst of the 20th century's Donkey presidents, only on steroids. True enough, but there are so many other insidious ploys that they try to sneak in. Thank God, their attempt to make combat veterans pay for their own health insurance was stopped cold. But they will try this again, you can bet on it.

Stuff like this comes at us daily. How is this playing with the average 'non political' American? I know my "Sick 'O Him" meter redlined back in June, so I have no idea if he's wearing thin to the People Magazine people.

**How is this playing with the average 'non political' American?**

Unfortunately, most 'average Americans' are too stinkin' stupid to CARE what is happening around them. Their biggest thrills in life are American Idol, March Madness, and looking for their next free drink ...
