  • I was just curious if anyone on here or if you know of anyone that has ever tried or has actually bought one of those Select Comfort beds. The ones where you can change the air pressure for your side of the bed to meet your comfort number. They are called Sleep Number Beds. I have a neck and back problem and quackpractors caused me to have spinal surgery from over manipulating my neck years ago plus my old man was sadistic when I was young.

  • Never used the beds Dakota but agree with you over quackpractors. They give you some relief initially but if they dont know what they are doing they can make it worse and make you pay in pain & money.

Had more relief with Acupuncture but I am still skeptical!

Maybe instead of a quackpractor you had a ragheadpractor, Mike.

I have also been pondering the factuality of the claims for those beds.
I have degenerative arthritis in my spine so I feel your pain, I have a lifetime prescription for vicodin and anti-inflammatories. Very rarely am I able to spend a complte night in the bed. Thank God for Lazy-Boy, I sleep more in the recliner.

The Arabs havent made it over in big numbers here yet!!

You would be old and gray and in a wheelchair before you get any of that treatment on NHS. You have to pay to be butchered like that. I think any idiot can set himself up as a quack in that area of medicine As the saying goes "pay your money take your chances".

The accupuncturist field is exclusively Chinese here. My first encounter with male chinese left the bottom of my spine bruised for 3 weeks but fixed me for a year. I think he was saying "Die imperialist pig" as he kneed me.

My second longer encounter with female Chinese from Mongolia of all places was much better. I think her two lines were "Pain" & "No Pain". If you can identify exactly were your pain is their type of treatment will work. Apart from an odd spasm which clears if you take strong painkiller I have been clear for last 18 months or so.

I would avoid the tablets that they try to push on you. Lord knows what is in them. A local scam was herbal Chinese Viagra which apparently worked because it was Viagra with a few other chemicals in the mix.

I have degenerative disc disorder and degenerative joint disorder so I need the same thing. I also have standing orders for the otehr kind of vicodin, it's called vicoprofen (ibuprofin instead of tylenol), it's easier on the stomach plus a standing order for Fentanyl 50mcg/hr patches. More commonly known as Duragesic. I have to hand walk that Rx to the pharmacy. No faxing, no call-in, no refills. It's a schedule II narcotic so they are very picky with it. But those two combined is the only way to keep my pain and stiffness in check. That and my other 15 drug for my heart condition. My wife's a nurse and she has joint problems too. So we decided to order one of the beds. Just wanted to check to see if anyone had tried one. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. UPS is scheduled to deliver all 9 boxes tomorrow. He is going to love me...

Plus we went from a Queen and decided if we're doing this to give us more room too so we went with the Eastern King. So we're going from a 60x80 to a 76x80. Like putting two twin beds together, more room... We'll let you know if it does me any good. I forgot the sleep apnea too that makes it difficult to rest with the tubes all over.

We're starting to sound like a couple of old guys! I always tell people if I was a horse I'd shoot me. Please keep me posted on the bed, if it helps I need to start negotiations with "she who must be obeyed".
I know what you meen about the size of the bed. we went from a king to a queen, worst decision we ever made:headbonk:

I'll let you know... you can take a quiz online and it says with my height/weight and such my sleep number is 80 so I'll start there. I have one of those too but mine is called "she who listens to the boss", most of the time. Believe me, I already have a DNR. And I will not do a heart transplant.

  • Just to be sure about the topic, we are asked about the Sleep Comfort Bed. So if anyone like to chime in on that topic, I'd also be interested myself. I have debated on this myself.

What they are saying is that the bed is costing the same as a regular bed. Is this worth it? I do not know of anyone who has one, but I haven't inquried very seriously about this. I might want to get one in a year or two.

    Cheers

  • My parents have one in their guest room and I have slept on it a few times. It was nice that the wife and I could set our sides to different levels, but I was not happy with trying to get it set to the right number. I am sure after you sleep on it a while you could get it set right, but only sleeping on it once in a while is a pain. First it's to soft, so you fill it more, then it's to hard, so you let some out. Then after you have laid on it for a while it feels like it changes so you go back to the adjusting. I never felt like I was on baby bears bed. It was never really uncomfortable, but that little adjuster keeps calling out your name. Maybe a number or two that way.. or this... yeah that's it... no.. no it's not.. adjust it some more... yeah thats it... oh wait that other number was better... I will say that I like the select comfort bed better than the memory foam mattress. Neither of them touch the Stearns and Foster pillow top matress I had a chance to sleep on a few times.

You can roll a turd in powdered sugar but that doesn’t make it a doughnut.

  • I don't have one but my mom and dad do and they swear by the thing. My brother has one as well and him and his wife love it. My wife and I bought a new bed about a year ago and looked into them but couldn't justify the extra $1000 compared to what we did buy. At this time I cannot say what kind we bought but it is a pillow top matterss with the pillow top part has the memory foam. Its not as hard to sleep on as the full tempuepedics, it is actually very supportive and after we had it for a week we just love the bed. I guess go with what you can afford. I think they have a either 45 or 60 day trial so if you don't like it just send it back.

  • We decided to go for the Cadillac Model 7000. With the replacement foundation and 7" leg set, wireless remote, dual air chambers, Eastern King, Nature Preference King Pillows, Lyocell Down Mattress cover, and 310TC King sheet set. Then we went to a local furniture and bought a nice headboard hat will attach to the foundation. So we should have a really nice bed once I get it set up tomorrow. It's coming in 9 boxes. The UPS guy will probably be here early to unload his truck here first. Unless they send a special truck for just our load. My wife started sleeping on her stomach not too long ago and she likes a lot softer mattress than I do.

So what kind of MPG does it get?:hyper:

  • That sounds about right. We paid $1100 for ours just couldn't justify it since niether of us have any real sleeping issues. Maybe in another 10 years or so. Let us know how it works out, I think they say give it 1-2 months before you can really decide. I had one in a hotel in Atlanta last year for a week and I just couldn't get used to it. I think I needed to sleep on it alot longer.

I too share with you guys a Degenerative disease. I was diagnosed with a Degenerative Bone Disease about 3 years ago. I have Arthritis that was "helped to happen sooner" thanks to a bad car wreck I was in back in 1992. Add this with a touch of Muscular Dystrophy (SP?)

Im kind of surprised you can get Vicoden--say that word to a Dr here where I live and they look at you like you were a child molester. Thankfully, Tylenol works for me--most of the time.

My doctor has classified me over 100% disabled and the Vicoprofen and Duragesic are both prescribed by my neurosurgeon. My problems are irreversible, my heart is failing so to keep me from being in constant pain they prescribe them to keep me comfortable. Tylenol hasn't worked for me for over 25 years.

  • Getting back on topic... the monster came in today. They say it should only take an hour to put together but I also bought the foundation with legs. It took the wife and I over 4 hours. It is huge...

We got the Model 7000 and the padding was exquisite. I'll be sleeping great tonight and with lots of extra room.
