New Members

At this moment in time this board has 259 members, however I would say that a more accurate number would be between 30 and 40. However despite this I feel that this board has got 40 loyal members and is growing all the time especially with great new members such as BrianB, Monique and JWfan.

Hi all!
I've had a very busy summer. I've been running in every direction. We've had vacation,county fair and horse shows. I'm sure I've missed alot. Don't worry I haven't left.

Good to have you back on board (literally) :lol: I thought you were a gonner. I only mentioned you yesterday what made you suddenly return today, I dont believe in coincedences.

What about Norhterner maybe we can get him/her and other past regulars back on board. Maybe an idea would be for Kevin to email all old member who made say 20-25 or more posts but whom have not posted for a while and try to entice them back on board.

Yes Chester everything went well thank you. I'm ready for fall. I love September and October the most.
I think it would be a good idea to email members we haven't heard from in awhile.

It was kind of fun reading through this fairly old thread, and reading of the progressive growth on the message board. As of this moment (as it changes quite quickly some days), there are 441 registered members. That is pretty incredible growth!

I made 741 posts a year ago today with 411 members less than we are today.

Thanks for the memories. I looked at that first post, and couldn't believe what I read. We are still discussing McLintock!, and the bad production from Goodtimes.

Glad to be here at this site. As I write this, I am watching "The Quiet Man" on AMC. He is what makes America so great. I wonder what he would think about this country today.

I am looking forward to this site, and what we will be talking about in the future. I am a collector of his movies, and enjoy seeing so many of his works. I look forward to seeing, "The High & The Mighty," and "Island In The Sky" when they hit the DVD circuit.

Just one word of advice to any and all that are looking for a John Wayne movie. If the label reads from a distributor from Goodtimes Video, don't buy it! The quality is poor to say the least, like "McLintock!" What a waste of a great movie with his number one leading lady. This is a great movie, and even though I was only 2 1/2 years old in it's theatical release, I enjoyed seeing in the theater years later. Funny, I didn't realize that this movie was released just 10 days prior to the Kennedy assignation.

Be sure to wait for the Batjac releases for the best qualities in JW movies. That includes "TH&TM", "Island in the Sky", "Hondo", and "McLintock." I am sure there are others. By the way, were you aware that "Lady Takes A Chance," starring Jean Arthur and second billing with none other JW? It will be released January 21, 2003. For the best price, I found it online at DeepDiscountDVD.com for $9.96 including shipping.

Coincidentally, today, January 16 (and 754 posts later), is my first anniversary of posting. I guess I lurked for almost two weeks before posting the first time. I can see that from the first, I was talking about They Were Expendable, colorized no less. I haven't taken the time tonight to see how many videos I have now, but I know the number has grown. My wardrobe has grown by a couple of shirts, two awesome hats, and a Red River D belt buckle (which I found as a result of this board). Certainly, our knowledge of the Duke has increased thanks to all of you. It's been a great year, and we're looking forward to many more.

This thread got us counting our John Wayne videos, and we have 69 videos and 8 DVDs. Several older titles (from the '30's), we have duplicates.

We consider most TV offerings poor at best, offensive at worst, so we don't even have cable (haven't had it for 10 years, haven't missed it much). With the money we aren't spending on cable, we enjoy buying videos and DVDs, and renting many of the older classics (our local video has a special on Tuesdays and Thursdays - 5 movies for 5 days for $5); but we've seen almost every old movie they have in stock.

I have especially enjoyed the colorized versions of many of the old movies. I just got in the mail one of my favorite John Wayne movies, *They Were Expendable*, in the colorized version. Being an old Navy guy, working around piers in the South Pacific, this movie really does something to me. I must be becoming a fanatic about this John Wayne stuff, as I am going to Western/cowboy clothing web sites and wanting to even get clothes like the Duke. My daughter gave me a leather vest similar to the Duke's, for Christmas. Next, a couple of shirts and a hat.

I have some property up in Selma, Oregon that is near a ranch that belonged to John Wayne many years ago. Some of the local old-timers have some great stories about the Duke!

I appreciate all you fans out there, and especially those who run these web sites, because it is quite a bit of work, truly a labor of love I think.
