  • Lord Of The Rings. Does anyone else love them as much as I do? I saw the first movie four times in the theatre and the second and third twice each. Since they have come out on dvd I have watched the extended version of the first movie another seven or eight times and the others two or three times.

The wife and I watched the fellowship of the ring again two weeks ago and then the two towers last saturday and this week were finishing it off with return of the king.

These movies are so epic in scale and so uplifting in their morality and good over evil that I can watch them a hundred times. The sam/frodo relationship is just so heartwarming that it makes me smile

Frodo: I'm going to Mordor alone Sam.

Sam: Right, and I'm coming with you!

  • Finally watched "Casino Royale," the latest of the Bond movies. I must admit I was very impressed!

Craig does make a very good 007, doesn't he, Jay? I don't know what all the earlier talk was about concerning his fitness or unfitness for the role. IMO, he's more believable as someone "licensed to kill" than were the others. He doesn't cut the bad guys any slack.

Also, I think he's just as handsome as the others but in a much more rugged way. Not such a "pretty boy" look but still damned good looking. He looks like more of a man's man than a lady's man.

Can you believe the stuntwork in that first 10 or 15 minutes? Outta sight!!!!!

    De gustibus non est disputandum

  • I agree, love them. It was nice to see a fantasy story get the royal treatment. Kudos to Peter Jackson and all at WET in New Zealand.

My wife and I both loved the new Bond. In fact the only thing that I had a problem with was they didn't really play the bond theme till the end of the movie.

  • As usual I'm a little late on this thread, but yesterday I watched "A History of Violence", with Viggo Mortenson, Maria Bello and William Hurt. It's about a gangster thrown back into his old ways, when he's recognized on TV for stopping a holdup at his restaurant. I did'nt catch when the movie was made, but it was absorbing to say the least, and very realistic. I give it a 9 !!!!!

    Regards

As usual, the gossip mongers had to put in their two cents when Craig was announced as the new Bond. As it turns out, he is terrific and he is young enough to keep the francise going for a number of years.
That opening sequence left me breathless! Of course, it was all done with seamless editing, but the result kept the viewer on the edge of the seat.

  • "United 93" - this was one of those movies in which the ending is known, but experiencing the progression of events was heartbreaking and mesmerizing all at once.

  • The King and I. Got it for my wife for her birthday and just saw it the other night for the first time in about 30 years. Really enjoyed the film!

  • Watched The Osterman Weekend.

Sam Peckipah last film with Burt Lancaster and the man we all hate Negatory Rutger Hauer.

Load of crap basically sums it up. Least it was a freebie DVD with the paper.

  • Have heard of the film for sure, not sure if I have ever seen it? What is it about? It sounds like another movie that Rutger Hauer did playing some sort of a criminal of somekind?

I don't dislike Rutger but, the Duke is King anytime ;-))

Es Ist Verboten Mit Gefangenen In Einzelhaft Zu Sprechen..

  • Well Rutger looked like he was sleepwalking in the movie. He also looks like he has the worst haircut in history.

Burt Lancaster plays mad CIA chief about to take over the world

Dennis Hooper and Craig T Nelson (Dad in Poltergeist) also feature

Storyline is the host of an investigative news show (Rutger) is convinced by the CIA that the friends he has invited to a weekend in the country are engaged in a conspiracy that threatens national security.

The only highlight is the actresses keep falling out of their clothes must be a button problem. The weird actress with the funny eyes form V is in it too.

Basically it is an mess as any talent Peckipah had was in the bottle by this stage.

By the way the CIA hitmen use machine guns firing hundreds of rounds and cant hit a thing and they get killed with 3 cross bow bolts !!!!!

  • I watched my new DVD of "Major League, The Wild Thing Edition". That Bob Uecker is hilarious as the play-by-play announcer.
