  • "Being John Malkovich" - a really offbeat story about people having the ability to actually enter the mind of movie star John Malkovich. Had some really wierd ideas.

  • The Mrs. and I split our time with the youngest kids last night.

I watched Meet the Robinsons with our youngest daughter. It was a fun movie! It shows you to "keep moving forward," and that was a positive theme for kids nowadays.

The Mrs. watched Castle in the Sky with our youngest son. It's a Japanese anime film by Hayao Miyazaki. It's not a genre I enjoy for the most part, so I'm glad she was watching with him. One of the things she enjoys about the English versions of Miyazaki's films is the all-star cast of voices. She says the plots are always kind of weird, but also kind of interesting. She says Miyazaki has an amazing imagination.

  • "Doomsday"

Wow, I haven't seen so complete a rip off of "Escape From New York" since, well..."Escape From LA".
Actually it's not a complete rip off of "New York" it also steals from "Mad Max" and "Resident Evil" and a little bit of George Romero's "Knight Riders" too.
But you know what's kind of funny about all of this. The movie is actually entertaining.I guess when you take the best parts from other films and blend them all together you can't help but come up with something fun.
A modern "B" movie with a truly beautiful leading lady.

They'd never forget the day,the stranger rode into town

  • The last non western I watched was "Casino Royale," it was leant to me some time ago but I only got around to watching it last night.

I had become quite disillusioned with the Bond franchise after watching some turkeys from Brosnan that came close to finishing the genre. I actually stated after watching "Die Another Day," that Bond should be killed and the series wrapped up. For these reasons I went out of my way to avoid seeing the latest entry.

However following some glowing reports from friends of mine and after reading on this forum that Jim (Stumpy) felt Craig was the best Bond thus far,I was sufficiently enticed into watching "Casino Royale".

I certainly wasn't disappointed, the movie was much darker than its predecessors and much more gritty. Bond is a very flawed character with a real human dimensions in this movie, he is a no nonsense, cold blooded agent who develops a softer side as the movie progresses.

The movie also benefits from a limited array of gadgets and one liners which had turned the franchise into a cliché. The action is breathtaking yet a lot more realistic and Craig is brilliant as Bond, completely eclipsing all bad memories left by Brosnan, I think when the next Bond movie arrives at the cinema, I may be paying a visit.

  • Just got though watching the Film "Starman" with Jeff Bridges that was filmed in 1984, and part of the Film was done Here in Northern Arizona at Monument Valley, Sedona and Meteor Crater that is near Winslow, Arizona.
    :film:
I have not seen this Film in a Few Years, But I watch it when I can, as I flew the Aircraft when they were hunting for the Locations for the Film.

I also Flew the Camera Aircraft in the Last Part of the Film when the U.F.O that came for The Starman comes to Meteor Crator to pick Him Up, and it was a Fun Film to Work On.

  • Watched "The 13th Warrior" with Antonio Banderas last night. Kind of a Beowulf story "knockoff" but I always enjoyed the movie.

Also, over the weekend the family and I continued the "Planet Earth" DVD series and also watched "Enchanted". Very good movie and the Planet Earth DVD's are amazing.

  • Atonement is an interesting movie. Not sure I'd pick it as a best picture movie. It was nominated for that in the Oscars. Good for adults only, and not all will like it. It was alright, but I doubt I'll watch it again.

    Cheers
