  • I used to listen to Rush religiously but finally he got a little too strident for me. Not only that but I got tired of listening to him pat himself on the back.

If the Dems pass the "Fairness Doctrine" BS again, I wouldn't put it past Rush to find himself a fairly close Caribbean Isle, erect a thousand foot antenna, with a million amp microphone, and blow the Dems off the map, just to spite the SOBs.

I hear what you are saying, but he was there for us during the election. For his continuing ratings he is probably happier Obama won. Even with the threat of the "Fairness Doctrine" he'll have more controversy to talk about with the new administration. That's when he gets his biggest following - during controversial things going on.

  • Ok, before I go into total disbelief....can someone explain what this "Fairness Doctrine" is about?

It was a policy in effect until about 1987, when the Reagan administration did away with it. It said that if radio stations broadcast any political advice or news, that both the conservative and liberal points of view had to be broadcast. The liberals have tried several times to broadcast their points of view to counter many conservative talk show hosts, such as Rush, but each time they've tried, their programs were soon taken off the air because nobody listened to them or bought ad time on them.

  • Old Time Radio Shows . . . Being new to this forum there hasn't been time to read all the entries but just in case the Old Time Radio links aren't included here is a link to some Westerns from http://www.radiolovers.com -

Some of the other free Internet OTR sites air John Wayne including "Fort Apache" which we recorded for our MP3 player. Also Lux Radio Theater includes some other Westerns.

  • Thanks for explaining that to me, Stumpy. I understand now. In today's world, we can't go hurting anyone's feelings now, or be unfair to another. Nope, sure can't. Rubbish!

  • In our area we have a 50,000 watt AM radio station, KGO, that late at night can be heard from Alaska down to Mexico and as far east as Montana on a good night. They are almost always spreading leftist propaganda to the unsuspecting (dare I say . . . ignorant?) public. I guess if the Fairness Doctrine gets reinstated, maybe they will have to get Rush on their station .

They have one guy, Dr. Bill Wattenburg, who stands out like a sole beacon, regarding more conservative viewpoints. He's on most weekends, and you can listen to him via live streaming.

As it got closer to the election, I wanted to :vomit: listening to the news people in the morning, who were most decidedly NOT objective.

But I know there is a God, because wiithin the past year, two of their most liberal talk show hosts have been fired, one very recently (for making an obscenity-laden [what might have been construed to be a] death threat when he thought the microphone was off), the other for involvement in child pornography (he's doing hard prison time now for that one). There's still one raving leftie who's on in the middle of the night, and you can bet he was crowing with glee after the election. I wonder what his downfall will be. All I can say is . . . keep praying!

  • Chester,

Reading your long "Welcome" again today was truly appreciated by we "Newbies" (don't know who added "Tenderfoot" to our I.D. but we love it!). And after reading your most recent entry to this thread all we can say is: "Amen"! Yours is a welcome voice from Northern CA . . .

John Wayne's legacy represents to us the God and Country strength which Hollywood performers sadly lack today. And if the mis-named Fairness Doctrine is enacted we may be relying on Forums such as these to exchange those conservative views which we admired in "The Duke".

Still trying to figure out how to maneuver "threads" on your Forum so as not to repeat our posts. Your patience is appreciated!

When convenient we'd like to hear if there is way to post a small "signature" photo other than using Avatar?

Speak of the devil . . . the report of his firing.

    I can't say that I'm sorry . . . because I'm not .

And to get this back on topic . . . right now the kids are listening to Adventures in Odyssey online, and since it's on the other computer, I'm listening, too. Good listening for the kids.
