As I recall, weren't they in the area doing something on another show and decided to drop in unannounced to visit the Tonight Show?
I don't think that was a planned visit if I remember right.
Tbone, I think you must be correct. It appears that way, just watching it, you know, how they were there for such a short time, and then that gal was there to escort them off stage (to make room for the scheduled guests, most likely).

Did you notice that the applause was good for Bob Hope and it seem to stay the same for Bing Crosby, but when Duke came on stage, the applause was greater, and they started to stand. You know that Bob and Bing are such great performers but seeing Duke has to be the ultimate dream come true for a live audience. This is a great clip. I haven't seen this before.

It was always like that for Duke, if there were Many Well Known People at a Event, When Duke Came In to the room He Would Always Get Much More Applause and Everyone Stood Up !
