  • I was thinking there might be room to relate the upside and there are no boundaries on this given the discretion members have shown in the past. Tell us about anything that lifts your spirit, brings a smile, or felt good to be near. :D:rolleyes::);) :P

Since 1948, I've been an avid fan of the University of Oklahoma's football team, the Sooners. To me, it's almost orgasmic when they beat the Texas Longhorns. And this from a guy who was born and has lived much of his life in Texas.

  • Hi all,

Being with family and friends after a long
working week. Watching Liverpool win any
game. Just thinking about the trip to Arizona. :)

I'll try one of those black beers....THE QUIET MAN.

  • A lorry carrying flowers had crashed somehow, it was sitting in a strange position in the centre of Bristol last Friday and it´s crew was giving away huge bunches of flowers to everybody passing by. That made a square-full of happy people! And it didn´t harm that sun was shining

    I don't believe in surrenders.

  • What cheers me up? Well, my weekly dinner with my favorite gal - Cindy. My nightly sittings on the porch watching my cats at play. A good classic movie. A few glasses of iced tea. And my time spent with the great folks from this site.

    Cheers & Rootbeers.

  • Hi Nathan, definately sweetened. I just can't get used to drinking tea without sweetener. However, I have been drinking some Chrystal Light at times as well, and it actually does taste pretty good without sweetener.

  • Relaxing with my family in any setting, but preferably while I'm BBQing and drinking sweet tea. Ideally, a little country or tejano music playing in the background and the kids running around screaming for no apparent reason other than they are glad to see their cousins.

p.s. My little girl (3 years old) and my wife are taking riding lessons. My little girl is a natural and looks terrific. My wife is getting used to the saddle and soreness, but I think we just jumped a major hurdle in purchasing our first horses next year. I can't think of much that beats having all of us horseback and enjoying the trail.

  • Hello All
Here are a few of my favorite things, ( to steal a line from Sound of Music), Talking with our mailman as equals and friends. Saying something cheerful to people walking by me when I am out with our dog. Marvelling at nature. Feeling the spirit of people helping others. The sounds of frogs and crickets and birds in our town and surrounding farm fields. Kind laughter. Shaking hands with my 90 year old father every time we meet and part (in a casual and loving way) Watching the kids live. Getting the job done at work. cooking a meal that others enjoy ( as opposed to choking lol ) Our oldest daughter feels that maybe we should go natural with our meat and so hunting may become part of this list ( venison) It seems like a long shot but never say never. As a family who are not vegetarian it seems reasonable, but I am heading off topic. Cool fresh water from a a mountain stream. Flannel sheets. Watching/helping a mechanic working. Sunshine while cycling. Food glorious food.

Edited once, last by kilo 6: spelling ... sigh ().

  • Making people laugh! I worked in radio, did a little stand-up comedy, and last year, I got to write, produce and act in a comedy-western play. Nothing better to me than when the timing is right, the delivery works, and the audience leaves the theater still laughing!

  • I think the most positive things that have happened in my life were helping the wife raise three fine, productive children who have become good citizens. And then watching those three father and mother (we have two sons and one daughter) seven other great kids.

Another very positive part of my life was spending 25 years in the military, helping defend my country, and making some great friends in the process.
Most people in the military, if they're really into it, feel like a member of one big close-knit family.

    De gustibus non est disputandum

  • Im with stumpy on this, my military experience was perhaps the most postive and rewarding thing Ive done thus far. It was the most unselfish thing I have ever done I believe. I didnt think about the money only the mission and my personal mission to do the best I could to get things where they needed to be and sometimes where lives depended on it. I may have only been a drop of water in a bucket, but every little bit helps. I only did 4 years, but I reckon that me and Uncle Sam are square now. Been a civilian for 3 years now and look forward to more positive things to come in the future.

  • I don't wish to sound too dull but watching John Wayne movies always cheers me up.

I'm also partial to a little socialising with friends on a Saturday night.

    :agent:

i m with you on this one robbie - no matter what sort of day i ve had, i can put a john wayne movie on and be transported to another world

  • It's not rethoric
Opening my eyes and to say I'm living
Hearing the sound of the rails while I don't know what I'll see
Running in a empty arena with other 1000 persons
Returning in places that I love as if they could be my birthplaces
Coming back to the past and saying to me "Was I to do all those things?"

  • I have read a fair bit (in my half century on this planet that have passed like a breeze ), and the post from our co-member Flaca stands on it's own. I like the thoughts that it brings to mind. I have enjoyed so many posts that it is humbling to think of the diversity of perspectives shared here. OK so enough ingratiating from me already. On topic I would like to share that every day I improve my sense of connection to people around me brings an increase in my happiness. I like to envision hands, extended in greeting between people from all over. In Russia, Norway, Japan, The United Kingdoms of Wales Ireland England and Scotland, Australia,The United States of America, Canada, Belgium and other nations our members live and live well I believe. take care everyone.:thumbs_up:

  • As some here know, im a bit of a WWII Eastern Front buff. Well, since I was last here-I became the proud owner of several significant and original photos dealing with that non-American theater of war.

Pic 1) Is THE original and is one that has been used in numerous books about the Battle of Stalingrad. This photo shows two German Sergeants (An Oberfeldwebel and a Hauptfeldwebel) sheltering behind some rubble on some street in Stalingrad. THe Oberfeld is motioning his men to attack while the Hauptfeld keeps watch to their front. Like I said, this is a well-known and very famous photo and I own it.

Pic 2) Shows a Heavy German Tank called a Brummbar (Grizzly Bear) which is preparing to go into battle at the Battle of Kursk (histories greatest tank battle) This Brumm Bar was part of the unit made up of 66 Brummbars that first saw action at Kursk. This particular unit was the 216th Panzer Battalion of the 21st Panzer Brigade attached to the 9th Army in Army Group Center. It was armed with a 150 mm gun.

Pic 3-4 are two of the same unit of Panzergrenadiers who also rode into battle at Kursk on the backs of Panzer IVs.

So yep, getting these photos have cheered me up quite a bit.

Forgot to mention that pic Nr 2 also has been published in several books about both the Eastern Front as well as Kursk, is THE original and is a very famous photo.
