  • You know that TV has some great shows on today. Well, let me rephrase that, I mean that with the release of TV shows on DVD there are great shows on TV today. Let's face it, TV shows on Today just doesn't have the style or originality like it did yesteryear. Let's see we had Lucy, Gilligan, Andy & Barney, even Fred and Dino.

I have in my possession a few TV shows on DVD in my collection.

I have M*A*S*H (the first three seasons) with McLean Stevenson, and Wayne Rogers.

I have Bewitched (the first four seasons) so far with the old Darin (Dick York).

I have Leave it to Beaver (the first two seasons) so far.

The Big Valley: boy that Linda Evans is soooooo Hot (the first season).

Hogan's Heroes (only the first season); what a funny show.

Green Acres (the first three seasons) so far. What a funny show too.

What do you have and what would you like? Why do you like it? Would you recommend it? What TV shows would you like on DVD? Do you have a wish list?

    Cheers  Hondo

  • Yes there are a lot of great releases on DVD. I get to watch stuff that never makes it here.

    I have bought

The Dick van Dyke complete series.
All in the Family 5 first seasons.
Mork and Mindy first season (silly show, but it brings back memories)
    The Flinstones 4 first seaons
The Wild Wild West first season
    The Night Stalker complete series

    Newer stuff:
    Seinfeld complete series
    Married With Children complete series

    British:
    Prisoner complete series
    Men Behaving Badly complete series
    Fawlty Towers complete series
    Black Adder complete series

I might buy the Mission Impossible series when I run out of other series. I'm not sure if they have started releasing them yet, but I know they are on their way.

Most of what I want is either already released or on it's way, so I don't have a wish list. I do need more time to watch it all though.

  • There is a really good website called, strangely enough given the heading of this topic, "TV Shows On DVD". Not only can you go on there & enter which shows you'd like to see released on DVD, but it will tell you where particular shows are on the request list, what new shows are coming out on DVD, & they will even notify you if one of the shows you listed as a favorite becomes available on DVD. It's a really neat site & it's at :

  • I'm just now in the beginning stages of collecting TV show seasons on DVD. Here is a list of the TV shows I watch and intend to collect on DVD:

    Leave It to Beaver
The Andy Griffith Show (the black & white era only)
    I Love Lucy
    Bonanza
Star Trek - The Next Generation
Looney Tunes (I have some of these collections already)
Tom and Jerry (the early episodes)
    Fraiser (have season 4)
    DogFights (History Channel)
Lots of World War II stuff from the History Channel (sometimes the H on their logo stands for the Hitler channel)
    Masterpiece Theatre (PBS)
I also collect series of PBS cooking shows (Julia Child, Jacques Pepin, etc.)

    British:
    Keeping Up Appearances
    Chef
    Mr. Bean
    Father Ted

I'm sure there are more I haven't thought of...there always are.

  • I agree that 99% of today's TV shows don't compare to those of an earlier age. I also began collecting old TV shows on DVD 2 or 3 years ago. Currently, I have boxed sets of:

Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (13 TV Episodes) (British)
    Bonanza (20 Episodes)
    Cheers (Seasons 1-8)
    Columbo (Seasons 1-2)
    Crime Story (Seasons 1 & 2)
    Gunsmoke (15 Episodes)
Hawaii Five-0 (Season 1) (On Order)
    Kojak (First Season)
    Magnum P.I. (Second Season)
Miami Vice (Seasons 1-4) (Seasons 3 & 4 on Order)
Return of Sherlock Holmes, (11 TV Episodes) (British)
Rockford Files (Seasons 1-4) (Seasons 3 & 4 on order)
Sherlock Holmes: Hound of the Baskervilles (British)
Sherlock Holmes: The Eligible Bachelor (British)
Sherlock Holmes: The Last Vampyre (British)
Sherlock Holmes: The Master Blackmailer (British)
Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four (British)
WKRP in Cincinnati (Season 1) (On Order)

As you can tell, I'm partial to the old cop shows and certain comedies. (And westerns when they're available)

  • Guess im a bit slow in collecting TV series on DvD but, I do plan on releasing more funds in the future for some.

All I have for now are:

The first 1 1/2 seasons of "Combat" with Vic Morow and Rick Jason.
    Season 1, of "Hogan's Heroes."
All of the original Fleischer Superman cartoons.

I sure wish they would release: "Twelve O'Clock high" on DvD. For some reason it never gets played on any TV station I get.

I can't stand "Good Times" but love watching: "Sanford and Son." Rest in Peace Redd.

Don't know if you're talking about the Gregory Peck movie or not but if you are, it's been out on DVD for several years.

Hi Jim, nope, I was talking about the TV series. I have also had my copy of Gregory Peck film. I watch it every now and then in memory of my Father who served as a Ball Turret Gunner on B-17's. ;)

  • Since we don't have cable (and where we live, if you don't have cable, you don't have ANYTHING, not even with an antenna), our family especially appreciates the availability of old (and some new) TV shows on DVD.

    What we currently own:

    The Waltons (first season)
    Alfred Hitchcock (misc. shows)
The Rockford Files (seasons 1 and 2, and will order the rest as they become available)
Little House on the Prairie (first season)
Sherlock Holmes (the Jeremy Brett version, plus all of the Basil Rathbone films)
    Bonanza (misc. episodes)
    The Beverly Hillbillies (misc. episodes)
Daniel Boone, with Fess Parker (entire first season)
Magnum PI (seasons 1 - 4, with seasons 5 and 6 on order)
Dragnet (20 episodes, not necessarily from the same season)
most of the Charlie Brown specials (This is America, Charlie Brown! series was an especially good deal at Costco, around $12 for all 8 specials)
The Roy Rogers Show (plus about fifty of his cowboy movies from the 30s and 40s, which have burned up a lot of time on TV in the last fifty years)
The Mary Tyler Moore Show (first season)
The Bob Newhart Show (first season)

The local DVD store has a whole wall of TV shows on DVD, from which we have rented:

Colombo (I used to own a car just like his - a Peugeot 403 convertible)
    Monk
    Leave it to Beaver
    Cheyenne

Our teenage daughter owns several seasons of The O.C.

The Mrs. would like to see on DVD:

We checked out the link provided by Dexter Woodruff (http://www.tvshowsondvd.com ) and discovered that both of these are available, at least one season.

A site worth checking. According to them, there are over 6000 TV shows legitimately available on DVD!!

OK, I must update the statement above, as I went back to that web site to explore a little more, and what they actually say is 6320 releases, which includes multiple seasons of different shows. Each season counts as a release. Even taking that into consideration, there are an awful lot of TV show available on DVD!
