  • I'd say my all-time favorite was "Lassie Come Home" but there have been others I liked very much. "National Velvet", "The Bear", "The Black Stallion" come to mind.

  • Hello BILL OF PA
    Sorry, i post this again.
Duke is sure to have loved dogs.
It's well known that Duke was applied from the name of the dog he kept
    in his boyhood.
and it is clear that he is accustomed to dog's handling when seeing in
his movie staring with dog,for exsample, sam in Hondo, clancy in North to Alaska and dog (a dog named DOG) in Big Jake and more・・・・・・.

But in real life, What kind of dogs is Duke's favorite?
hottweiler, mastif, airedale? Do you know?

    Regards.
    H.sanada

Sometimes kids ask me what a pro is. I just point to the Duke.

  • There were so many. You mention Old Yeller, and Marley & Me, but you can't forget The Shaggy Dog, That Darn Cat. But what about The Birds or even Jaws.

    Cheers  Hondo

Bill, Duke's favourite dog must have been Blackie

    Quote

On January 14, 1958, Aissa Wayne had a lucky escape.
Blackie the family dog alerted Pilar that the house was on fire.
Pilar made a rush for Aissa's room and found the hall filled with smoke.
She grabbed the baby from the crib, and carried Aissa to saftey.

And don't forget when he was young,

Duke, with his Parents, brother Robert and his dog 'Duke'

    Quote

A local fireman at the firehouse on his route to school in Glendale
started calling him "Little Duke", because he never went anywhere
without his huge Airedale Terrier dog,
Duke. He preferred "Duke" to "Marion,"
and the name stuck for the rest of his life.
